Need a hand - would be much appreciated!

I've been thinking about making new start scenarios for a mod for quite awhile now, and recently It appealed to me to have *no* start scenario, but let the players choose -- as much as I can. So, I wanted people to begin the game with no ship, but the credits to buy something that suited them.

The problem is, you can't enter any shipdealer -- because of course you have no ship to swap over. I get a CTD as soon as I enter the shipdealer room (click on the room icon, the current room fades out and then the game crashes, as it would). So I see the problem, but no way of getting around it -- I've tried making a "ghost" of a ship - something that the game could class as a ship but not actually be a ship....if I'm making sence, but that just causes even more problems.

So, I come to you for help. Is there a way this can be done? Such as the singleplayer way where you could talk to someone in a bar and "buy" a ship from them etc. ?

simple - create a ship thats just a suitcase or escape pod or whatever,give it normal hardpoints but no engine,power,equipment etc - voila they have to buy a new ship before they can leave

Aye, but I was after a totally no-ship option. Again I've got the quote Single Player, in that when you go to a ship dealer (at the very beginning, before speaking to Juni for the first time) there are no problems, you just have your current cash in the area where your ship would normally be. If I could get that then players could just buy their chosen ship straight off.

is'nt all the Story mode information in the game stored along with the source code where we can't change anything without the source code?

Without something to compair too, its going to be difficult to reproduce.

The CTD could also be caused by a ship placed at the dealer using textures in the wrong format (i.e. jpg, bmp, etc...)

Textures should be, of course, either in TGA or DDS format, preferably with a 16 bit color depth.

Other than that, one or more ships there have an invalid package nickname .

Nay, The dealers at Manhatten are as of yet untouched, including the ship packages. No custom ships added yet, either.

It is possible with some work by modifying mo1a.ini. How complex it is after that is up to you... you could skip the whole juni in equip room or even the whole juni and king of 01a and m01b.ini and rewrite your own start with popups and custom rumors. It may take a few weeks work tho

As for the ship, perhaps a ship with no texture. that *should* be invisible and set hull value and equip values to 1 cred each.

Two options or a mix inbetween them have fun m8.

That sounds lik an interesting scenario to start with while not having a scenario to start with:

Use that escape pod Idea, and the players were just involved in a serious battle over the planet and crashed and now has no memory of anything.
