GMAX Adding Materials and Mapping

can i use GMAX instead of MilkShape 3D Adding Materials and Mapping
before to Exporting to .CMP
or i MUST use MilkShape 3D to add Materials and Mapp

I don't know about the rest of the guys, but I usually get the model into milkshape or 3ds format and then use Lithium Unwrap to get a UV map and then use photoshop to do the texture.
