how to change COLORS of SHIPs in FL

ei there guys...

im a newbie on modding and have just one question...

its how you change the color of the ships in freelancer...

i know its something to do with the .mat file...

There is also a lot of topics in the 3d modeling and texturing forum that will be of some help, I'm sure.
