creating a sound change mod help...

Well, if we're not talking about the Voices (the dialogue of the characters), then it's pretty easy. Most of the sounds in FL are listed as WAV, but they're really encoded using the Frauenhofer MP3 codec. You can replace sounds with WAVs @ 22khz, 16bit, and they'll play just fine. As for re-encoding in Frauenhofer... there are some issues with that that haven't been resolved yet- basically the FL MP3s use some strange nulls to start/end the sounds.

If you stick to uncompressed wavs or follow the more technical RIFF-WAV process you should be fine but I don't know that I would call this an easy place to start.

Thanks for the info.

You see, i say the sounds would be easy to me because i deal with wav files all the time and it's probably easier to start there than on ships and such. I havent really tryed anything yet so i'm just assuming that it's easier than making ships and systems. The main problem i'm having right now is trying to find software that can help me with the sound modding. Maybe i missed it searching the threads, but i have found nothing. Is there a program that makes it kind of simple to search and re-name the ini. file entries in 1 shot or do i have to go in manually and search for instances of a name?

There is a star wars mod that changes just the sounds, you could use it for a model of what to change. Linky

I use Actual Search and Replace for some of my generic replacing text things. I don't know if it will fit your needs, but i think it is useful.

I really look forward to your sound effects- sound is an area of the game I've done a fair amount of work with, and if you've really improved things I'll want to check it out for the Toolkit mod
