"Freelancer Explorer"

I have downloaded the "Freelancer Explorer" and i'm still learning how to use it.
I have managed to create a new mod that adds a new system which contains a few jumpholes and a base but it only worked once and only for about 6 seconds.

HELP!

My personal advise...don't use FLE at all. No offence meant to the makers, because It's a great and easy to use program, but it has it's bugs. There is another new 'Freelancer System Editor' tool around now - I never got the hang of using it, but I hear it's very good!

Or..do as I did - go to the tutorial section of the forums, and learn some easier stuff first, until you have a solid understanding of how FL modding works - then try and learn system building the proper (and hard) way...I havn't got that good yet though, lol. There are plenty of good tutorials around here, enough to keep you busy for a decade...

Thanx.........And I do have the FLSE also but FLE seemed easier to use than FLSE...........its probably just me........I guess its because FLSE doesnt allow you to save the editing to a mod (or does it?).......I dont know im just getting in to modding but I am still lookin' for some help to make my dream come true.

Even the new version?

@Shadow_Mercenary - Try some of the threads that help with figuring out crash bugs in systems. System crashes are caused by not setting them up right, not by bad programming in FLE. Read as many tutorials as you can and read the crash-cause threads so you have a clear understanding of how to make a proper system.

Ah, sorry If I offended you Louva, because no, I' havn't checked the new version *wince*. I personally dont like using tools that do the work for you - I like knowing what I've done and where, as it comes in useful in debugging (and you learn more, I find). Coupled with the fact I'm not really into making systems at the moment, Is why I havn't used it yet.

Sorry for jumping in and saying that then, without actually knowing the latest version.

L.D...posting in shame

I feel a new generation of modding coming - Look at them, Warriors of the Sky (Argh & Crew), The Sol Mod (Mephistopheles)...Total Conversions, to the highest quality...

I use FLE and I like it. I wont say it is perfect, as it had a weird glitch yesterday that I don't ever know what the hell it was (mBases.ini was weighting about 250mb!), but most of the time, I simply tell that you can use FLE, but that you should also know how to edit systems by hand to correct mistakes and to tweak settings precisely. FLE is a great tool, it's simply the users which dont know how to use it .

And no I still havent tried the new Beta. I've always been slow with upgrading

Keep up the good work Louva though

Well, i've tried the new beta and its miles better than the old version. Not half as many annoying things going on, nice one Louva and the chaps! It's a bit like buying a Skoda, they make good cars now but people are still put off by the earlier versions, like FriendlyFire says, more down to peeps not knowing how to use it.

modders!!

@Gibbon : If you tell it is nice, I'll give it a go then Was only waiting for a few comments before upgrading to it.

And that was a pointless remark Hack....

@FriendlyFire

I've used FLE for ages, the previous version had its faults as well as its good points. This time round however, the new version is a big improvement, too many things it can do a lot better now lol. For fine tuning i still like to keep my hand in and edit the system .ini files manually just to make sure.
If you take the time with this tool and realise that some manual editing is essential then you won't go far wrong. But then we knew that already

I've been using FLE for a week now and thought I was getting the hang of it.

I created a new system and it works great in single player, the problems start when I try to run it in a LAN server,I get load errors on all my new stuff, anybody any idea where abouts I've F%^&*d up.

Post Thu Mar 31, 2005 8:11 pm

Usually to get help you have to provide more information Like.. a log of all the errors you are getting would be a good start

Post Fri Apr 01, 2005 12:33 pm

Sorry Louva-Deus.

I found the answer myself,I'm using Dark Dragon's tutorials & I was still in the middle of No.2 & didn't realise the answer was in No.3.
Bit strange having to move the system entry to the bottom in the universe.ini

Post Sun Apr 03, 2005 2:44 pm

That is standard FL practice, you only need to look at the original Universe.ini file and all is revealed

Usually with errors for LAN/Internet, you look in the console, anything yellow and red is bad ...

Heres one for you, upon creating a base, any bade, whether the system is still there or not, gives me "parameter incorrect" BEFORE the screen even comes up to add something in.

When I click the base button, and then click into the map, this is when it happens, I click OK, and the box comes up. Anything I put into it gives me the same error, this is on all the versions of FLE I have come across, yet I can add one fine if I manually edit the ini's ...
