Ship collision boxes

Hi, i saw in the "read me first" post that you can't chnage Ship collision boxes. I take that to mean that the game uses them to detect when to ships hit each other. I want to add some new ship and some will be very small and some will be very large.

Will not being able to change Ship collision boxes casue problems if so is their a way to work aroun d it?

Thanks

Cobra

Several work arounds:
1) Locate an FL ship that's close to the size of the ship you're adding.
--Copy it's .SUR file to the folder your ship is in, and rename the SUR to match your ship's MAT & CMP files.
--All 3 must have the EXACT same name, just different extensions.
2) There are two new programs to help you modify the SUR you've selected.
--a) HardCMP
----It will allow you to see your model, and the SUR you selected.
--b) Model Tool
----It will allow you to resize the model and/or the SUR.
----To do so, resize the model, and then resize the SUR.
----(Be sure to backup the model, first)
----Once the SUR is resized, delete the resized model, and replace it with the original model.
----Load into HardCMP to verify the new settings.
----It may take several attempts before you're satisfied with the results, but it works great!

FLModelTool will change the shape defined by the sur file to a certain degree.

If you change it too much you will crash to the desktop when you hit something with the ship. At least that is what I have found.

Use HardCMP to find the sur file with the closest fit and then resize and test by hitting as many stations as you can as fast as possible.

It's handy to make a separate folder in your work area with all the ship sur files in it to have easy access to the sur files when you need them.
