Crashing problem

Crashing problem

I'm makeing my first mod and it's well under way. It's been going REALLY well till now. I'm rearrangeing some things in Colorado and for some reason, when you dock with a tradelane, the screen freezes and the game crashes. It does say "dock" and you start to go in but about when the effects are suppose to turn on, it suddonly stops and my server stops responding.

I don't remember changeing anything except, the sun, the NY jumphole, and 2 debree fields...

have you touched the efecs for the trade lane? or the hard points?

I don't even know HOW to change the tradelanes yet. I just started and am trying to teach myself how to make a mod. All that I remember changes is what I listed above... I havent messed with any other files then the universe files yet.

Ah, the wonderful world of Debugging!

There is no way we can know what it is directly am affraid. There is a thread in the tutorials forum about finding out what causes crashes during systems modding - dunno if it will help you though (I wrote it). What I can say is that you may have to go and re-do it all again, but testing EACH thing you change. In the end this can be quicker than the method of trying to work out what has gone wrong!

Take it from me (and lord knows, I've been doing weird things to Systems for my mod, if you're not familiar with it)... back your work up constantly. Make copies of your System's INI file before any major edits, and save them somewhere. Test things one part at a time... don't open up FLE and do 50 things at once... you'll be totally hosed, believe me!

And get super-familiar wth hand-editing systems- FLE is OK when it works (and the next version, which is in Beta, will be better still), but it's not 100% reliable, and it won't do everything. So be careful about editing, and get your hands dirty... and when something crashes... if you're not *sure* what you edited that might've caused the crash... go to backup...

oh I do make backups but the problem is I went into my game and just started flying around to get the feel of the new system. I just happend to come across a tradelane and decided to take it and it crashed. I tryed it 3 more times at different rings and it still does. My backup won't help cause it only DOESN'T have my last change which is moveing the jumphole...

Like I said, it sounds like an encounters parameter that is incorrect. Have you tried going over your encounters at all?

lol, I don't know how to do that. Really the only files ive gone over is my universe files. If it's in those files, I may have bumped it or something.

It seems to me like it freezes right when the effects are suppost to start. Is that somewhere in the universe files? If not, what file has that?

I FOUND OUT SOMETHING!!!

I replaced the fime with my backup just to see what would happen. IT WORKED! The only difference is that I moved the galilao jumphole. I ONLY changed it and it crashed again when leaveing pueblo station. Why can't I move a jumphole???

Because of patrol paths...........
Edit (by the way, I don't know for sure at all, but its what I am guessing!...and patrol paths are different from normal encounters zones )

But I did change the pop thing that was around the jumphole... What else do I need to change?

No what you see is

the game has a patroal set for soem ships to go to the jump hold and use it or somthing

when you move it thay go to the hole to use it but theres no hole so it crashes ur game cos it dont know what to do

General Leo:
Besides the "pop thing" around the hole...
There's probably Patrol's leading to/from the hole...
(Which use the hole to leave the system through.)
Probably an exclusion zone that's affecting an asteroid field or nebula.
(Which will be in the Solar/Asteroids or solar/Nebula folders.)
Not to mention a zone that connects to a base or tradelane.
(pop_type = Faction, Wormhole, single_base_Unlaw)
(pop_type = major_tradelane)
Or connects to another hole, or even, a jumpgate.
(pop_type = wormhole)

I just did a quick scan of the file...
My guess would be an exclusion zone.
(The system's full of 'em!)
Check these files:
file = solar\asteroids\Li03_Silverton_rock_asteroid_field.ini
file = solar\asteroids\Li03_Copperton_rock_asteroid_field.ini
file = solar\asteroids\Li03_Alamosa_rock_asteroid_field.ini
file = solar\asteroids\Li03_Cheyenne_rock_asteroid_field.ini

Make sure that any "pop thingy" that you changed is changed in the appropriate asteroid field ini file, too.
Look particularly at any exclusions zones in those files.
If you've deleted/renamed a zone, delete/change it in the appropriate ini, too.

Man, Do not move anything like a planet or a trade lane ring without knowing exactly what you are doing.
You should start by creating a new system from scratch first and make your mistakes there, IMHO.
