Revisiting the past - weapons style

I'm new to modifying freelancer, heck, i've only been playing freelancer for a couple of weeks. I'm new to this site and I hope I've posted this in the right place, if not, i apologise. Anyway, I wanted to take freelancer away from all the lazers and plasma bolts etc etc that the game is rife with and create some good old fashioned high speed metal projectile weapons. I have worked out how to create a new gun to some extent. But a few problems have so far confused me:

firstly, I'd like a distinct muzzle flash on the gun when its fired

secondly, No visible trails

thirdly, is it possible to damage the hull while negating shield damage (damage straight to the hull, leaving the shield completely in tact)?

and finally... custom sound effects

I've searched and searched through the forums and cannot find anything, trust me that I've tried, i hate asking questions in forums, you never know when, if ever, you'll get a reply.

Although I haven't done it before i know that everything but one you can do. The only problem i can see happening is the "Hitting the hull insted of the shield" i haven't seen a mod beening able to do this.

The way the engine work is that the shield is half of hull damage, but i have seen a 'thingy' that tells it other wise. But you'll still need to get the shield down first.

Away you could get around this is to get rid of all the shields altogether since you won't need them, just up the nano bots.

Ahhh, damn, I didnt want to get rid of shields all together, or energy weapons, but sort of combine the two, I've noticed that there are some powerful energy based weapons that require a lot of energy to fire, and would probably do more damage than a bullet, but adding something less powerful which could deplete the hull without touching the shields would make gameplay much more interesting as the combination of possible attacks on a person would be great (it would also be great for use against players using uber shields) but if it cant be done, i guess thats that... unless there's a way to localise radiation damage at a target, that would have the same effect.

I had another idea which might be good for multiplayer. Would it be possible to use shield batteries/nano bots as ammunition for a gun that does negative damage to shields or hull? It would be a useful accessory for trade convoys allowing the 'trading' of life saving equipment without having to deactivate the shield in a battle situation, I realise the costs would be high when using such a gun, but I think this added dimension in team work could bring some variation to multiplayer games.

I'm not sure about this i haven't seen it done before???? ask some of the vet's they could tell you better then me

How do I go about asking the vets specifically? I like trying to implement ideas that havent been done before, I don't beleive in moding for modings sake, which is why I'm steering clear of ships, I cant think of anything remotely new about them.

#1: pick a nice one from this list: list im not 100% sure if i listed all flashes as well, but the tables are handy one way or another when building weapons.

#2: remove the const_effect line

#3: shieldbreakers are not possible. you cant bypass shields. experiments to simulate rad type damage for guns failed.

#4: custom sounds are very possible. check th audio directory, try to make connections to the weapon_equip.ini. search for the sound references in the audio folder. you'll find them, its pretty selfexplaining if you "hop" from reference to nicknames a couple of times. its also a good way to understand dependencies and how the ini structure works.
