it could be possible, but only with missile-style weapons (guided or unguided, doesnt matter, so u can make it look like a normal weapon).

the delay of the motor + the muzzle_velocity are the key to this.

this is a nice wepons tut i made (ya, it got resurrected again ), it could help.

set muzzle_velocity of the [gun to 0, give the motor a good acceleration, lets say 1000, a duration of 4 sec and a delay of 3 secs. this means that hte motor "charges" for 3 secs, then accelerates within 1 sec to speed 1000.

the flash of the weapon could be eventually changed to the FX of the cruise charge, but you will need to test that.

there is one drawback of this:
if the ship doesnt move in a straight line and constant speed, then the "shot" would stay on its path (think of an unguided missile. you launch it and can turn away).
would look a bit weird.

i know of no other way/workaround to make a charging weapon.

edit: small addition: this should work without problems for stationary weapons like turrets on bases. would surely look cool to see a station charge its maingun before unleashing a huge blast towards an enemy capship.
