Shroud vs. Reaper

Here you can discuss tactics and strategies to best beat your opponents. What is the best loadout for each ship? How do you use "Reverse Thrust" and "Sliding"?

Two minor points, here.

1) Gamespy is not bad. It's a great program for matchmaking players, especially in terms of old games. AND you can use it free.

2) It IS still possible to play Starlancer through the MSN Gaming Zone, while it may not have it's own room, you can slip into the TCP/IP game area and Starlancer is still supported there for play.

thats correct..i am in zone all the time in that very room..so,,guess that excuse is invalid..lol

Actually the real reason is I'm scared. So scared, in fact, that I'm ****ting bricks even as I type this. Your obvious prowess with a joystick makes me question not only my abilities as a pilot within the Starlancer game but also my own masculinity. Obviously I am no more worthy to share a Deatmatch with you than a weasle. Probably less so.

Sorry being Off Topic - but there is no Starlancer Tech Forum and this one looks vivid :
I bought a Gold Games Collection just to have Starlancer lol - but it is awful to play without joystick. My problem: I do not have a joystick yet.

My Question: Does anybody use a joystick with Windows XP SP2 and it works perfectly ? Please give me details that I can look around for such a joystick.

Why didn't I just buy one in a shop or e-bay?
Bad experience with my old MS steering wheel. It run perfectly on XP (PIV) but like crap on XP SP2 (Athlon 3700+). So I am in doubt about old/new joysticks.
Thanks for hints

I've got both a Saitek X75 and a Microsoft Sidewinder (Original) that I haven't had any problems with whatsoever. I've never heard of SP2 giving joystick specific errors, but I don't pay much attention to SP2 crap anyway.

Are you sure it's not just you're settings that are the problem?

FYI, if you're looking for something cheap I always buy my sticks at Radioshack for around 20 USD.

thanks - I'll check my settings. Thought it should work in XP SP2 when it worked in single XP. Anyhow, will try it first on wheel. And then hopefully i'll lance my arm strong in starlancer

i say Reaper. it has a nicer name

I can never get multiplayer...as someone else said here, "Gamespy is giving me grief." My type of grief is computer speed when downloading...

How did we get off topic like this?

I can only fly Shroud in the last mission no matter what, I always get knocked by the Ion Cannon. In other missions, Shroud is pathetic vs. motherships. I can give Basilisks *beep* when i'm cloaked, however, since they don't know who's following them, and then you can shoot, before the cloak, you know what happens next. One can argue that a pilot's skill shoudl be enough to take down a basilisk without blind fire. Unfortunatly, I am not so skilled like that.

Reaper can take out enemies faster then Shroud, and if you're a skilled pilot, you can wup a squardron (pardon spelling) without the use of Solomons. If you can't decide which to paly, then try something new, like a Naginata in the last mission. See if you'll survive.
