Dark Frontier Mod

Hello all,

Long time player/veteran of Freelancer. Played on many servers and mods. Now I'm looking to create my own mod. I have tinkered around with the game for months now and I've figured out the basics of running a server and I'm ready to move on to the next step.

The mod name is Dark Frontier.

Goals of the mod project:

-Fix the original game

Now what do I mean by fix the original game? I mean for 1 the scale of the game itself. As a player nothing more has pissed me off about the game more then the scale of things. And for 2, realism. The game has came pretty close at times to seeming real with the different enviroments, I would just like to push it all the way.

Other fixes would be the realism of the encounters and engagement with the NPCs, what sorts of formations and ship groups fly where ect.

Another thing that has bothered me about almost any server that I join is the lack of choice. Sure there are hundreds of ships to choose from but 95 percent of all players on every server all use those one or two ships that are seemingly the best. I want to get rid of that type of game all together. No more 3 ship servers and one or two loadouts that everyone uses.

I have a new weapon class system that I have come up with and alot of ideas to make the combat of this mod own.

Customization of every system, addition of new systems.

New weapon types.

I want to include new ships and redo alot of the old ones and maybe even get rid of some of the old ones. There will most likely be extensive model editing in this project.

Don't want to give away too much about what all I have planned on.

I want Dark Frontier to be different by many different dimensions of thinking and game play. I know and understand some of the limitations of the game and I grow in my ability to edit the game frequently. Hopefully I will become proficient at it.

Currently I can run an okay server from my pc with the connection I have, soon I will have a server setup built by myself that I will be able to host the mod on. This mod will be open to the public to play on when it is released after closed testing until the first version is ready. A community will also be built with a website and a forum.

The main idea of this mod is to provide a A1 player experience. Bug free(or as bug free as things can be within reason until a final version is out), and to make the game undeniably interesting again like it was the first time.

What I am looking for:

Staff - Those interested with helping players ingame once we release the mod. (Won't really be important until more time has gone by, but it doesn't hurt to get every aquainted and to have some beta testers around.)

Modders - I am new to this so I don't know everything, I definately need a few people who know what they are doing with the game or are proficient in some end of editing the game. If you can edit and create systems, edit/create models like bases and ships, general game editing, anything of that nature I could really use your help.

I speak english and understand some japanese and german. Please contact me at [email protected]

That Sounds Pretty Good. Do you have anyone else Working on the Project at the moment? I'll help if you need it, but I'm rather Busy at the moment...

Currently I am the sole contributor to the mod project. So far all that I have done is brainstorm the general tone and gotten together alot of ideas and tinkered around with the game a bit. I've also confirmed that I can run a server for a small crowd from my pc for now until I get the server put together.

I do have one or two people that I ask for information from though. Other then that I'm pretty much on my own, and just getting into modding it's somewhat overwhelming.

Closed down the vanilla server. I'm putting together that server I was talking about right now actually. Might be a few days, I have a few other things going on RL atm. Still need people!

I now have two people who have joined the team, we have forums, the server just got some room made next to my pc and I'm getting it finished within the next night or two(depends on rl). We're still looking for a few more people.

I've scraped the vanilla server idea for now and will open a server once we have something 'new' to show people. I think I only saw two people join the server itself and they only looked around for a moment so I decided to keep it offline until we have something to show off.

The Official Dark Frontier Mod forum can be found at: http://darkfrontier.proboards47.com/

I do forewarn you though, the forum is very new. Nothing thrilling to see just yet, as it is less then a week or two old and I'm still editing it to my liking and fixing all the settings to my liking.

Still looking for a few more heads to help out with this project. So far we have three official people(including me) and two people pending.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to using Freelancer Mod Manager to extract a mod to a users copy of Freelancer? I'm trying to avoid FLMM. I have seen .exe auto extracters, some very nice, some with automated updates, ect. Any help please?

Looking for someone interested in doing some textures for us. Also looking for a charitable person that wouldn't mind hosting our web based part of the community in the form of some web space and a cpanel. Any link arrangement is fine as we're probably going to use a short url service. We don't need an absorbent amount of space just enough to host the mod download when finished (plus a conservative estimate of space for future releases and updates), as well as enough space for a web site that will be designed by me. All we need is the space and a cpanel account. Would be very much appreciated. So if you have the extra space and you can spare an extra subdomain it would be lovely.

We're also currently looking for someone who is good at looking through the dlls of the game and also putting together new dlls and integrating them into the game. So any coders please contact us.
