Please make a CSV 64x64 icon for me

I followed the (excellent) tutorial, but I came up with an icon that looks really hazy and lame:

I used Gimp instead of Photoshop, but I think it's not the software to blame, but myself. Anybody who's actually got art feel like bailing me out?

Doesn't look all that bad :p try adjusting brightness and contrast a bit to bring out the edges more.

How's this?

Thanks Gibbon! That looks a *lot* better. And thanks Mini_Me for the encouragement. I did try to adjust the color/contrast/brightness to bring out the edges, but I made it look terrible in the process.

Just a minor tip for those who wish to make these icons, it's a pleasure to see your own work in the game.

The tutorial is super. But it's best not to copy or imitate the same original FL background.

I use a light blue-tinged single-tone background and almost every icon is nice and sharp and clear.

But you have to do the slog of deleting the original background and make it transparent, this takes about 5-15 minutes to do.

@ Startrader

Why is it "best not to copy or imitate the same original FL background" ? I mean if some people want consistency in their icons then why not? Other options are completely redo them as CV has done. Surely keeping them uniform whether it be to the original format is the way to go? I'm not being difficult, just curious as to why you said that

No worries Gibbon, no offence taken.

Sure, it's a matter of personal choice.

The reason for my comment is that in the mod I had to fix (many hours of despair, let me say!!), trying to emulate the original background, the new ship icons were very unclear against it.

And it does take a bit of skill to get it right, even after many tries, when I tried to make them clearer using as close to the original background as I could get, it turned out to be a bad background to use when the new ships have a variety of new colours that the original ships don't have.

So I gave up on that and played with different background schemes, and the coloured ships stood out best with a much simpler gradiented lighter backdrop.

But it really is a matter of personal choice, of course. And apart from that, like everyone else, I like to think of my way as better - for me!
