gmax cmp import/export

speaking as one with no coding ability, would it be easy/possible to just combine the milkshape autodesk importer with the cmp exporter and vise-versa for the importer? that would open many more people to modeling as they could just use gmax instead of giving up because they dont want to pay for milkshape.

It's against Gmax's EULA to do that.
Just export out of Gmax to MD3 and import into Milkshape. I know that it's not the most elegant way to do it, but it works and allows you to access Gmax's more powerfull modeling features. Even if you had Max you'd have to do that, seeing as how there's not even a plugin for Max.

What's really sad is that the game developers can't just release good modding tools and documentation. All I can say is really support the ones that do. That's the only way you'll get the attention of the other game producers.
