Privateer: The Reckoning OpenSP Beta v4.65 Feedback

Multiplayer has been asked about several times, so I thought I'd post this here:

In the Data\Characters folder there is a file called: NewCharacter.txt
Rename it to NewCharacter.ini
In the EXE folder, there are two more files, mpnewcharacter.txt and newplayer.txt, rename them to: mpnewcharacter.fl and newplayer.fl
That should make the mod MP compatible.
(But SP incompatible!)
Be sure that the mod is inactive before renaming the files, and then reactivate the mod.

9) Added the Righteous Fire Intro movie.

That's cool. A movie file from the original game?

Near as I can figure, Waxman did a screen capture of the movie as it played.
He tried getting the original movie also, but was unable to capture the audio from that one.
Since v4.0 was already on Jolson, which is where Righteous Fire begins, I left the starting planet as Jolson, to match the movie.

A side-note:
I've gotten permission to use Aldebaran's Midway model, and had planned on including it in this version.
Unfortunately, I started having problems with models, and never got around to adding hardpoints to the Midway.
This release is primarily to see if I got all of the model bugs out, before I add another new model.

And a BTW:
I also sent the mod to WC News, along with some new screenshots.
They don't appear to do their own screenshots, and the ones they've been using were done by Bob McDob when he was testing things several months ago.
And needless to say, things have evolved since then!
The screenshots I sent them show:
1) the Tarsus landing on Jolson.
2) the Perry Naval Station with Ranger Class Carriers and Paradigms in the docks.
--And yes, the Rangers are a bit large for the docks, one of the problems I was having.
--Some of the Rangers in the docks have their flight deck lights on.
3) one of the Ranger Class Carriers as they appear as bases.
--There are 24 landing lights inside, along with interior lighing.
--Took forever to get it to look right!
--Never did get the ceiling of the flight deck to show up, though.
--I used Liberty Dreadnought weapons, as they looked the best on the Rangers.

I'm hoping that everyone enjoys the gameplay more than ever.
Things are a bit more "life-threatening," and a bit more fun.
I had to test eveything in "god" mode, just to survive long enough to check things out.

Loaded new version Privateer the Reckoning V4.65 and started from scratch...
problems ocurring from start planet:

Jolson: Rumour from Ultima Resorts fixer Vanna Volker has code displaying with text "?xml version="1.0"encoding="UTF-16"?><RDL><PUSH/TEXT>I've heard that the Militia's been cracking down on some Tobacco operation in the Raxis system. Nasty habit Tobacco. </text><PARA/><POP/><RDL>

initial mission went fine no problems ocurred...

New Detroit : Rumour from militia fixer Officer Ariel Baxter had same msg code displaying but with msg "Militia Lt. Goddard was lost in a raid on pirates in the Telar system."

the Bribes msgs are not coming up with the msg codes tho.

Mission taken from job board to kill all Sarn Consortium ships has waypoint to fly you into sun

Perry System: When trying to loot the kilrathi ship on the way to the Anapolis refinery, was attacked by pirate while trying to tractor in salvage....resulted in CTD.

posting this after the CTD, will check for more....

Anapolis Refinery fixer Izanami Corp Leona Stiel has code being displayed with rumour "A frieghter friend of mine said he's been having problems getting shipments out of Manchester. Seems it's got Pirates crawling all over the place."

apon leaving Anapolis Refinery I selected TCS Vesuvius to go to but autopilot would not start the trip....After setting the navigation to a spot close to the TCS Vesuvius and making trip, i could not land on the TCS Vesuvius, kept crashing into the top of carrier. This has changed from version 4.0 where I could land on the Vesuvius...

Tried to set navigation to Perry Station by clicking on station...will not start autopilot, had to select space close to Perry station. was able to land on Perry station, able to sell salvage and weapons gathered from space wrecks, able to got to ship merchant and view ships, able to repair tarsus ship, but when selecting "go to Bar" it CTD'd

I must've put the wrong DLL into the mod.
Simple change to fix the rumors.

As to the missions, that's a rough one to isolate.

The TCS Vesuvius sounds like a SUR file problem.
Try copying all of the Vesuvius files from v4.0 to this mod.
See if that helps. It should.

As to the CTD, it may be related to the Vesuvius?

Tried changing "contents.dll" in the DLL folder from 4.0 did not make diff on the msgs, looked for other dll files, but did not seem to find one for the misc texts like 4.6 has.

Changing the 3 files related to Vesuvius, Perry Stn and now N Constantinople Station, seems to have rectified the nav problem for autopilot and the inability to land on Vesuvius.

The CTD still ocurrs when trying to go to bar on Perry....Don't know if this will help but as it goes to try and change to the Bar interior graphics, the music will start to play for the bar then it crashes....

Update: found a problem when outfitting the Arrow, there was problem with the hardpoints...the front gun placements were inside the Arrow so the weapons were barely showing. found by changing the 3 files this was corrected

with all the other problems seeming to occur with ships and being rectified by taking files from 4.0, I thot maybe my download was corrupted...not the case...seems the download from WC site is corrupted, or at least the ships folder is. Am going to try taking folder from 4.0 and putting it in the 4.6 mod to see if it corrects everything

Have changed the ships folder and the problems with the ships have disappeared including the large "space stations" somehow this has become corrupted when you uploaded to the WC site

Well...
Not quite.
I used the Model Tool to resize the sur files, and they're all messed up!
(Edit: Due to my computer, NOT Due to Model Tool!)
I'll release a patch or a new full version in a coupla days.
You should only need to copy the Arrow.cmp and base sur files, nothing else.

Oh, and use the v4.65 DLLs as the whole mod is set up for them.
Using the v4.0 DLLs will make things really wierd!

The rumors are in the misctext.dll, and it'll be in the patch.


SPECIAL NOTICE:
Once I release the patch/next version, I quit!
My computer is continually corrupting files.
As I can't afford a new one, and there's 871 files in the mod, I'm burned out on trying to keep everything going.
Not-to-mention-the-fact that my DUN is so friggin' slow, it takes 4 hours to upload the mod!
And...
Being that I'm 53, my concentration wanes from time-to-time.
(Placing the wrong version of the rumor's DLL should prove that!)
Anyone wanting the job can have it.
I'll provide some background files I used to write the mod, and I'll be available for support.
I may get back to work on my "Equalizer" series.

this version looks the best yet. i have been playing it but i cannot recognize where i am and i'm in need of a map desperately. would you please help? thank you for your prompt replies.

If you have been playing the Privateer MOD
then you already have a copy of the map, it
comes with the MOD...
You can find the map in your Mod Manager folder
which is located at:
C:\Program Files\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\PrivateerTheReckoningOpenSPBetav4_65

Also here's a map you can right click on and save as....

Enjoy...

Update:
I just uploaded the Patch.
It fixes the rumors, the Hornet's infocard, and the Base-related problems.
It also fixes the Vesuvius' deck lighting, and it might fix Perry's bar problem.

That map contains a rather common error. Troy and War do not connect to Pollux. There is a jump from Troy to Way. Pollux' only connection is to Sherwood. The official map at WCnews.com was recently changed to correct this error.

Not sure if that error is in the mod, but if so, it should probably be fixed. And it should probably be fixed on the map as well

Thsi si a superb mod and thanks ot all who have made it possible but will there be anyone hosting a server for multiplay for it?
