Privateer: The Reckoning MOD Beta 2.5 Feedback

Here you can find news, get help and comment about the Privateer / Wing Commander Total Conversion called ?Privateer: The Reckoning? and accompanying Mods

Post Fri Nov 12, 2004 10:36 am

The music I believe is from the original Privateer. I think the goal here was to make it as much like the original as possible. It might be boring from today's standards, but I feel like I'm playing the original...which is pretty neat.

Question, can this mod be used on a server and hosted?

Warzog and all the other Privateers, I applaud your fantastic work. I cannot begin to say how happy I am to be able to play Privateer again (and fly around in an Arrow fighter!). Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sincerely,

Original privateer? as in another mod? It still doesn't change the look on the music.

I changed the music on my own computer to a random music i found for space and a space fighting music from Unreal Tournament 2004; makes fighting a lot more fun and flying cross-system to another jump hole not so boring.

Yeah, I decided to be a pirate and after so long of fighting, NO ONE became enemies with me. I attacked every militia patrol, every confed patrol, every ultima convoy, and it ended up wiht militias just under friendly, confed just neutral, and ultima very friendly.
Reputations have a problem...but anyway...

Overrandomized:
1) Music was downloaded WC CIC.
2) It's from the original Privateer game.
3) Working on the base crashes.
4) Reworked equipment sales.
5) The systems are replicas of Privateer's systems.
6) I'll look into the empathy subroutine.
7) Steltek-see 6.
8) Weapon's stats are from Privateer.
9) see 6.
10) I asked for help with those, but got none.
--Sorry, but I'm not an author.

If you want to explore...
Open the Universe.ini file in the Data\Universe folder...
(Notepad works best for this.)
Then change all of the:
visit = 1
to
visit = 0

Unless you do the same thing for each system file, the paths will still show up.

Stinger:
That is the goal.
To duplicate the original game as closely as possible.

Thanx!

Overrandomized:
Original Privateer:
As in:
The 1994 game: Wing Commander Privateer.
It was the result of people playing Wing Commander 1 & 2, in which there were missions where you had to stop Privateers who were running contraband.
People wanted to be able to be on the other side.

Question 1 :
since it's a rewrite the next chapter - does that mean space places bases and other (world build in ) are gonna change from this beta to the other version ?
**************************************************************

Edited the EXE so that it appears as 1.0 on the main server lobby
no support - but its there so if you like it don't break it -
***************************************************************

Observation 1 :
Inform them that it' plays on win 98/Me but you have no support . Any way to make the space appear as in Perry ? i can see that space well .(on win98)

Observation 2 : If i had any idea - how to make mods - I would not be here so - im lying i make mods music associations, clips sounds - ive never played with music from games - (whimpy composers and it get long ) I tend from time to time chek them out - but the Midi or ROLAND - ADLIB sound file rendered in wav is pretty - Memorable but horrible - in any case it's just a beta and the intentions of the old song was indeed a good willing to hype it up -

Ill try to make a rocking machine type of tribute to the privateer world if i can -
im used to makin modular music - MOD-IT-S3M - amiga sound files - but can make wav and mp3

jenxter:
Question 1:
NO!
This release was a complete rewrite because in the last version, there were to many bugs induced by trying to adapt the Sirius Sector of Freelancer to the Gemini Sector of Privateer.
I discovered, during the disasterous last beta, that the FL engine doesn't like having the Sirius sector messed with.
So...
With this beta, I left Sirius as is, I just moved it out of the way, and made it invisible/inaccessible.
The next beta release will have the same Gemini Systems, Bases, etc.
But...
It will attempt to repair some bugs, and to improve general gameplay.

Observation 1:
As my computer is XP, and I know of no one who can alpha test using Win98/ME, I can't make claims as to compatipility.

Perry is system #48.
If you open the GS48.ini file, you'll find:

[Background
basic_stars = solar\starsphere\starsphere_stars_basic.cmp
complex_stars = solar\starsphere\starsphere_rh02_stars.cmp
nebulae = solar\starsphere\starsphere_bw06_fp7.cmp

Each of the 70 GS##.ini's have:

[Background
basic_stars =
complex_stars =
nebulae =

If you replace the data with the info from GS48.ini, all systems will basically appear as Perry.
(They'll still have their unique planets, bases, holes, and fields.

Observation 2:
If you can produce better Privateer-like music, that would be great!
Several things you need to take into account:
1) Freelancer's engine ONLY plays WAV files, not MP3's.
2) Music files need to be as small as possible.
--In Freelancer, tunes that run in a continuous loop are 200kb-500kb
--In Freelancer, tunes that run only once are 600kb-1.3mb
3) We would prefer tunes that can be looped continuously.

Privateers Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!! Ive kept a dos disk just for Privateer, both the first version and The Darkening.

I've just started playing on a home lan setup, Beta 4. I see that you have Beta 5 out,,, can't find it on TLR. Can I get itsome where else??

For a Beta version, Damn Good. I like the Old Version music. Some of the comments
I had to make involve::
Not logging all of the commodities found on planets, i.e. Not listing the ones from Perry, from Constantinople. not from Acilles, not from Hector,, etc.
The empathy issue. Everybody loves me but the Pirates.

Snakebite announced that he was opening a server but I can't find it, Can anybody post the info.

I use an ISDN dialup, 128k, metered, so I can't help with opening up a server.

Thankyou Thankyou, this is looking great!!!

hi Warzog.
you guys really did an exquizite job this time. i've played the four corners and the systems of your new mod completely as a SP. i'm flying the best vhf (a Paktahn) comlete wit the best guns(fusion guns and turret),the best shields (level 7) the best generator (level 7) and altough it is a very difficult mod to make money i have earned 10 mil credits so far, strictly from missions. i've had a few crashes but since i save before each mission the crashes did not bother me. now i'm going into another mod while impatiently waiting for the next level of your mod. thank you so mush for this one, it plays very well in the SP mode.

patience is a VIRTUE bestowed on humans only USE IT.

"OLD" save games save your location.
This version of the mod doesn't use the same system designations as Freelancer, as older versions did.
The Freelancer systems are there, but all of the market ini's have been stripped.
(To keep the mod size down.)
Sorry 'bout that.

To use an old save game, edit it, and change:
one of the "sys_visited" entries to: 2334889548
one of the "base_visited" entries to: 3096232199

Also change you're current location to those numbers.
Which are System GS52, and Base GS52_01.
Then restart the mod, and Freelancer, and load-up the edited savegame.
(It'll place you on the New Detroit base.)

If your save game is from the current version (v4.0) of the mod...
Then something's become corrupt...
And that means that you need to uninstall, and then reinstall everything!
(Freelancer, FLMM, and the mod.)

Warzog: just FYI... I've figured out how to make custom weapons (so AGT's won't be the only one around now... lol)

I intend to make some 'specially for fixed-forward guns, that can be "embedded" into a ship, so that it looks like a gun barrel sticking out (but takes advantage of LOD, so players won't have the polys on their screen unless they get within the LOD specifications of the weapon, which is useful- you can set it ridiculously low for tiny gun barrels, or ultra high for Cannons of Doooooom, hehe).

Want me to send you some samples when I get done? These are going to be generic "machinegun" and "automatic cannon" barrels, so they won't be really distinctive, which means that they could have a wide variety of uses for fixed-forward gun concepts... including your mod, if you're still considering doing that
