The Demon

Rather than continue to hijack the mod feedback thread, I'll post what I find here.

I find that the viewing range of the Demon can be decreased, but not increased, as far as the model included in your mod goes. The maximum viewing range I can achieve is 70m. I see nothing obvious in the .cmp file that could cause the model to disappear at range. Perhaps it's the fact that the model is fully half under the x-z plane...but other ships are partway submerged that way too...Sorry I can't help better...

Waht does the model maker say?

Maybe there is an artificial 3d "LOD View cone" or something that is invisibile in the game engine, and the demon doesnt fit within box because it is offcenter. Maybe it does make a difference if the demon is off afterall. The other ships work, probably because they are a different size. I am willing to bet they aren't centered in the game engine though (it might not really be detectable for us).

I would try moving all models to a standard 0,0,0 coord in the center, and re-compile (or whatever it is thats done)

IIRC, when you try to land on Newark Station next to Manhattan, you can see the shield taking damage from the station, even though the ship should be well clear of it.
It also seems to be one of the lowest setting of all of the ships, being inside the anti-grav field, and not above it.
Perhaps it could be raised?

Do you have the .ms3d file warzog? If not, who made the model? Perhaps they'd be willing to just re-export it...in hopes that that would fis the problem

You're in luck!
It's one of the few ships that I do have the file for.
I'm emailing it to you now.
(I used the email button.)
BTW-IIRC-Bob McDob made the Demon.
(Along with the Paradigm, Gothri, and I think he did the Talon and Stiletto, too.)

heh, my models are always centered, prolems with them are that they are not fully tested by me yet.

As you may have noticed some of them have not working gun points, or small problems with textures... but all of them are awesome looking. Cudos go here to my Wing Commander Saga team, which has spent a lot of time working on this ships.

HAH! I found the problem with the model. The groups must be separated by facing and axis. That is the faces visible from the top must be separate from the ones visible from the bottom. Same for the remaining faces not of either group. I was able to see the damned thing! I'd tried everything (except this). I'm in the process of cleaning up the file and stuff better than I had for the test.

I'm really glad I could delete the long apologetic speil about all the things I've tried. Side by side comparison of working files led me to this. Perhaps I should have tried the toutorials...but anyway it's done.
