Privateer Voice Mod

Here you can find news, get help and comment about the Privateer / Wing Commander Total Conversion called ?Privateer: The Reckoning? and accompanying Mods

That's easier said than done!
You have to change them in the System files, the Audio files, the Universe.ini, the Faction_Prop.ini, and probably a few more I've forgotten.

I don't think so warzog. Which voicefile a station uses and which announcer appears is only specified in the system files.

I added the BountyHunter voices, so there are only three more factions to go ( militia, pirates and retros ). But school starts again after vacation tomorrow, so I don't think I will be able to finish the files until next weekend.

Swiftr:
Can you make the Outcasts use the Kilrathi voices, too?
While setting up the Gemini Sector, I had to place the Outcast's systems where the Kilrathi should be.
(The Corsair's systems are also there.)

no problem, already done :-)

militia, pirates and retro voicefiles are done.
Any suggestions what else I could do in the Voice Mod. Currently I only changed the space voice-sounds you hear when you just fly around.

IIRC, there were some Bartender Rumors in Privateer.
Perhaps you could add those, too?
Which may not work as FL prints them out instead of speaking them.

Or, how about the sales pitch of the ship dealers?
Naw, couldn't match the ships up.

Hmmm....
I guess not, after all.

BTW-Great work!
It sounds really nice!

I hope you don't mind, but I updloaded the mod to Tolwyn's site.
Bob McDob has asked Eraser for a mirror ftp location.
If we get it, I'll combine the Voice, and Audio mods with the 2 main mods, which will be easier to make available to players, since Eraser will have access to them.
LMK if this is acceptable to you.
If not, I'll delete the Voice mod from Tolwyn's site.

I'm glad you like it
Do with it what you want ;-)

Seems like there's nothing more to do for me now *sniff*

Well, I just assembled 3 of the mods into one.

A Whopping 18.5mb!
Just need to finish tesiting it!

While doing some debugging...
I discovered that the audio mod is causing a bug.
The message was to the effect that there was a message overflow.
(to many messages)
When I removed the Voice_Space_female & male.ini's the error went away.
I'm not sure if it's the attenuation, or the priority that's the problem.
All of the entry's are out of order, so it's hard for me to follow.
Any ideas?

Edit:
Just got this message during a disastrous mission:
Warning: sound reference count leaks detected: 1 sounds
I have no idea what that means.
It occured while I was getting my butt whipped bad by a bunch of Paradigms!
(11 turrets, 4 missiles, and there were 3 or 4 of them, along with fighter escorts!)

yea, something to do :-)

the "sound reference count leak" problem is probably a sound I defined in the voice_properties.ini but didn't add in the voices_space.... file.
And the other bug....hmm...have to think about it, probably a priority problem.
I'll go through the inis and tell you when I found out what causes the errors.

Edit:
Can you tell me which factions were involved in the Paradigm fight ?
and when do you get the message overflow warning ?

The Paradigm fight was during mission 03, when you, Juni, and Walker try to save Baxter Research Station from being attacked.
IIRC, it's the li_lsf_grp, li_n_grp, rh_n_grp, and maybe the li_p_grp?

Edit:
Get the message several times during the battle.
There's a lot of screaming, boasting, threatening, etc going on.
It's a regular furball of activity!
(Sorry, Furball is an air combat term for a mass of tightly flying, fighting aircraft.)

hmm.. I played through mission 3 but didn't get any error messages. My soundfiles aren't even used, because the voices for the Storylinemissions are defined in the missions' ini and I didn't change them.
Nevertheless, I checked some of the voice files and found some bugs, but only minor things. Nothing what could end up in a warning message.

Post Tue Mar 09, 2004 8:44 am

Which mission ini?
The main mod modifies or replaces several of them.
And I can recall hearing Retros yelling, along with Militia, and even a Drayman pilot.
And don't forget, I removed the two Voice_Space files to get rid of the other bug.

I mean for example the m01a.ini in the missions/m01a folder. It containes all the mission specific ships and for each of them there's also a voice=.... line which defines the voice file. And I didn't change any of them.

And the other bug....hmm.
I need to know how to cause it myself. But I didn't actually play a lot the last weeks, perhaps I should just fly around and make missions to see what works or not.
