Cup Holders

Mrs Carbonizer and I have been reading the forums on a daily basis for many months now and haven’t really needed to submit many posts because many of our questions are already being answered by like minded FL fans ( hats off to Natrunner, ElectricBrain etc.)

However, Mrs Carbonizer came up with a very profound point yesterday with regard to the absence of cockpit views. When buying a new craft or upgrading to a better one its always nice to have a fiddle with the console and count the number of cup holders on offer, as we all know these are essential when traveling through drive through restaurants and can help decide the final choice of craft to purchase.

Mrs Carbonizer would like to know if the cockpits are not available for inspection in the game will they appear as images in the manual?

On a personal note did we ever get to the bottom of a UK distributor of the US version of the game?
One solution to reduce carriage costs across the pond would be for several of us to club together and order several copies to be sent in one package / delivery.

Heheh, well all i can say that cockpit struts have a VERY good chance of getting back in the game.

I wouldn't worry.

Say hi to the missus for me.

I sure do want cupholders!
(and a cockpit... )

Tell your wife I said hi!

LOL, that has to be one of the more interesting posts Ive seen here. Im hoping to see the struts back in the game, and for the beverage holders to be fully adjustable and able to accomodate my jumbo Squishy.

Cupholders are a must! Drunken flying is one thing but having those beercans going all over the place in a dogfight just wont do!
(I can see my girl bitching about the mess... )

Yup. What's the point of having a bar if you can't drink your heart off?
Would be cool to be able to bring drinks in the ship .

Good point. My compliments to the Mrs.! Since much of Freelancer takes place in bars, being able to bring along some Liberty Ale in your shiny new Titan would be great for impressing the girls!

Seriously, all that I've posted, and pretty much all that's been discussed on these boards is based on a preview version from a build made several months before the final code is set. The folks at DA REALLY listen to people, and are always willing to try anything to see if it works, or install or remove things to improve the game. I was really struck by the openness of the developers. When I visited DA, I really thought I'd need to introduce myself, explain where I come from etc etc, but they said "oh, you're Boscoe! We've read your posts, and here's something you might like..." and I'd be shown something relevant. There's nothing secretive or arrogant about the devs, they want this game to work!

I've never been a big fan of cup-holders. I don't trust them. Most of the time they're too small, or in an inconvenient place. I'm not that interested in what the cockpits look like, it's what's "under the hood" that matters. I was sitting around watching TV at my friend's place, and his roommate's airhead girlfriend was on the phone. She said something like, "you have to buy me this car, daddy. It has lots of neat buttons." You could put lots of neat buttons, or cool cup-holders inside a Yugo, but it would still be a crappy little car.

Trent: What's the difference between these two ships?
Ship dealer: They both cost the same. The one on the left has stronger armor, better shields, more hardpoints, and it's faster. The one on the right has cup-holders.
Trent: I'll take it!

For me cupholders are good news - bad news. My misses immediately fills them up with things like cosmetics, nail polish, pens, $5 reciepts from the grocery store, ... and oh yes ... tons of fast food napkins. Now having a napkin holder for spilled Lager, that would be good!

HAHAHAH! Love this post . I actually have one that I use everyday when I'm gaming. The cockpit struts may still be put back into the game yet. That's for the developers to decide. They do browse these forums. (Personally I would like to have a radar display as well.)

P.S. My cupholders are always too small for the cups I have. Why is that? You guys should post more often. We are a great community. Gibby has made sure that it stays civil. Although beware. There is currently a forum's war going on.

Who cares about Forum wars?
a) We're defending, they're attacking: it's our territory.
b) We're fighting for the right side
c) MS is on our side
d) We're more than a thousand
e) We can always eject them off our site.

Now, back to cup holders: What about a plastic cup holder in the game box that you can put on your monitor?

Cup holders - who needs them? That's why I have
Aa DVD rom drive - for the tea
A CD Read/write - for the 'pepsi'
A normal x56 - for the cappuccino.

I don't know about getting a cup-holder with the game, but what about an official Freelancer coaster. Maybe they could even throw in a placemat, then you could eat and drink while your playing the game. You could get a Lazy-Boy to sit in so when you got tired you would just need to hit pause and go to sleep, then as soon as you woke up you start playing again. Also if you never had to get up to go to the bathroom it would be great, so you could get a catheter and a colostomy bag, or build a toilet into the Lazy-Boy. Then you could sit there and play Freelancer and have your Wife/Mom/Girlfriend/Sister/Daughter bring you food and take away the empty plates and glasses. You wouldn't be the most popular guy around the house, but you'd have the most fun.

Ugnaught, sometime I think you and I are a LOT alike. Then you go and post something like that and I realize we are not. Just kidding with you. But a catheter...I love FL, but my bathroom is only like 5 seconds away, I can take a brief break and be back before the ship even noticed I was gone.
