Absolutely not.

BTW,Trade lanes are NOT for system to system jumps they are a way of travelling really fast within a system.

It goes like this. You use jumpgates and jumpholes to move from system to system, and trade lanes within (most!) systems. But no you can't fly manually between them. Even at the scale FL models star systems it would still take a very long time.

I remember the first time i ever played wing commander, didn't know that there was an autopilot that took you to the next nav point, took me about 20 minutes flying manually to the next nav point without anything ever happening. And that was just a short distance, so I can't imagine flying between star-systems manually. You can always try if you're a very lonely person who has no social life that has nothing better to do if you like spending a 12 hour fligt to the next system...

Btw: NO, I AM NOT RELATED TO Z IN ANY WAY

Well, I'm afraid i'll afraid its gonna have to be me who makes that first and probably only attempt to fly manually from system to system then.

Or I'll just leave my pc running.

YOU CANT! You'll just eventually hit the barrier set by the game's engine.

...Just a random thought from a random mind

I bet u come in at the other side of the system, just so u'd be stuck in the middle of know where and have to keep going for even longer, now u'll have the time to say 'DOH' a few thousand times.

Isn't the main idea that from system to system it could be millions of light years away making it impossible to just fly from place to place thus the reason we have jumpoints to warp huge distances that would technically take thousands of years to just travel.

No, within the FL universe it is easily possible for ships to fly from system to system manually (a la the colony ships) also the colonies were exploring nearby systems befoer jump gate technology was developed... I BELIEVE. It simply makes it so that you can go across the sector in a matter of days or weeks rather than months or years.
