Nomads

How big a part will the nomads take? after watching the intro, i have heard that
the nomads have been taken out of it.Good call ,i think the nomads should be a mysterious race or even a fable, you just do'nt know weather thay exist or not.

I mean if i was to fly to the outer rim and see a nomad ship could i go to a bar
and tell someone of my sighting ,would thay believe me? Or would i need more solid proof such as nomad technology. And just how hard are the nomads if i were to pick a fight with one how long would i last? What i'm asking is how big a part will the nomads have in fl.And will thay be a part of the story as it unfolds.
I hope so, nothing quite like alians to get the heart racing.

I won't say for certain one way or another. The PR beta doesn't have an NDA on it so if one wanted to say, they could, but frankly I'd rather let you discover yourself

AE has a great site, Freelancer Portal. Something of a "sister site". We don't compete with each other. Albino went to Austin with us, great guy, had fun shooting the guns off of him in the multiplayer lab!

i just watched the CGI video that the nomads are in they seem to have alot more plot substance than i have seen from reading various reviews is this true or not? are they merely "involved" in the plot or are they essential to it? i hope they are only a small disoverable part otherwise FL will just dissolve into another round of humans v.s. aliens if they are only a background issue, salute to DA and MS! i just want a clarification after reading the posts above no spoilers though!

I haven't seen the movie but I have taken a look at some of the pics of it. What exactly are the Nomads? Are they an alien race that destroyed the Sol System along with Earth?

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 12:14 pm

The old Trailer includes a good part of "Nomad-related-story". It actually leads to the conclusion that the big background threat in FL is still the Nomads lurking somwhere trying to erase mankind...
If the story would lead into the human vs. alien stereotype it would be quite disappointing.
My hopes are for the changes/reforms in FL that have evolved over the many years (having erased the Nomads from the trailer etc.)

And how would one be supposed to play an "infinite" freelancing game after the end of the storyline if mankind would get erased by the Nomads?

Well the full background goes something like this.

In the original concept of Freelancer, the Nomads showed up towards the end of the Coalition\Alliance war in a cloaked Dreadnaught and decided the human race was not fit to live and took out the entire solar system with a single blast at the sun (the ensuing expolsion was pretty impressive in the FMV by the way). The sleeper ships still (obviously) managed to escape and get to the sirius system.

About a year or so ago, DA decided to knock the Nomads down a peg or two. I mean how exactly do you fight an enemy with the ability to take out Solar system with one blast from a vessel that can sneak into the solar system undetected.

After that piece of news came out pretty well much nothing has been heard about the Nomads since. As you can read in the interviews with Jorg and Phil the Nomads are in the storyline somewhere. However what part they play exactly is unknown to all, except DA, Beta Testers (whoever they are) and the PR players.

Who knows guys you may win a copy of the sneak preview and be able to find out for yourselves pretty soon.

How does the intro movie look without the Nomads? Does it just end after sleepers breaking blockade?

Post Thu Jan 30, 2003 9:39 pm

the sleeper ships leave, and then you see a ship wich tells "this was 800 years ago,..."

but just download it, there should be a small version of that intro 6.279KB it's nice

hmmm...tough this question is... maybe there is another major war between the houses, and then the Nomads come back... and we all unite, and every military force destroys the Nomad threat in say...2months of gameplay storyline time?? then you can go to like the 3 systems out of 48 that were destroyed in the conflict, but no more wars. and the story continues...
Phoenix out
PS: just a suggestion & why doesn't my :p make a face?
