Freelancer Wiki

I think we should all help develop the Freelancer Wiki. This way when people search for the game there will be a lot on the site. For example the Star Wars Wiki.

Cool, I didn't even know there was a Freelancer Wiki at http://freelancer.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

It is very underdeveloped. It only has info on systems and ships, thats about it.

One of these days I'd like to set up a tutorial wiki on the =EOA= site. Unfortunately these mystical days do not seem to be coming very quickly. The question is, who is willing to work on posting and formatting wiki articles? And who is willing to allow their tutorials to either be copied, rewritten, or referenced in works on another site?

As an answer to your first question, there is an administrator there. But as for your other question, I don't know.

Its about damn time someone setup a wiki! I just hope its not too little too late.

For the format adjustments, its easy to convert BBcode tags to wiki markup with batch scripts, or even manual replace all, and general editor's review.

Permission is probably a minor issue and in general if something is contributed to a site as a community resource it can be copied to other community sites with a disclaimer giving the author a contact point to have it pulled if they don't want it mirrored. Too, since its a wiki the original author could delete the article text, although only a sysop can delete the actual article itself. Keeping tutorials synced across multiple sites is also an issue, on a wiki anyone can edit it and in most cases the original tutorial can become out dated in short order.

Sorry to say I can't help with the wiki, I barely have time to work on OL's wiki...maybe if it were setup a year ago...

By law you can't copy them. The reason is because this website does not have a ToS that forces people to wave reproduction rights in order to post here. Therefore the author retains all rights.

I clicked on 'edit' to try to add information, but got told "Access denied" -- just like those forbidden jumpholes. Since I am a registered Wikipedia editor and contributor, I thought I might be able to log in with my Wikipedia ID. Nope - access denied even to log in. If that's the way it is, it will stay undeveloped.

I am not registerd but i can still edit. In fact i am creating the base locations list. Where all bases are and their locations.

Oh gosh that's a very tricky and subtle question, what are we to do...

Hmmm.... Let me think. Hmm... wait I think I got it -- no that was the refrigerator turning on. Hmm.... Oh I know! --

Ask!

There's so little material out there that this would be a highly trivial exercise easily doable within 10 minutes. You could have asked *all writers of all published walkthroughs* in the same time it took you to BS around on this thread.

Post Sat Apr 28, 2007 10:52 am

And should I BS around when banning you or should I take my time and enjoy it? Don't be a prick.

There is no point in asking if there is nobody willing to put forth the effort necessary to do revisions/rewritings, organizing, and posting them. Most of the tutorials are either poorly written or have faulty or incomplete information and we don't want a collection of bad tutorials. So this requires individuals (plural) who would be willing to basically write a massive number of tutorials from scratch using the existing ones as references.

When we find those individuals then we can ask the authors of the existing tutorials for permission.

Dude, it's bad enough you're wax poetical about how difficult it would be for you to do the work -- especially since nobody asked you to do it.

It's worse to threaten to disrupt the discussion and work of those with a solid record of dedication to the work that you're whining about how you can't do, and calling people names. "Don't be a prick" indeed.
