Freelancer sreen resolution

Is there anyway to get freelancer to display the game at 1280X1024 screen res. As most LCD monitors now show this screen res as default. Yet Freelancer won't let you go to that screen res in the settings?

You have to force this resolution in the "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\perfoptions.ini" file, however the menu bars will appear slightly misplaced. Edit the [Wincamera entry in the file \Freelancer\Data\cameras.ini accordingly.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one still playing freelancer. I want to play it in my new PC, which has widescreen. I tried to change PrefOptions.ini to 1680x1050 and it did, but a lot of stuff were out of the screen. I opened Cameras.ini but notepad can not read it correctly. Any advice? Which resolution would you recommend to play?

1280X720 is good enough (720p) - your antialiasing will have a much bigger impact than higher resolutions, and ATI cards love freelancer particularly.

also i think the wincamera setting is reduced by 10, from 53 to 43, but it's been awhile since i tried this on a friends computer, anyways that should get you close enough. hopefully your screen doesn't cut off the top inch or so...because then you can't launch!
