"OpenSP" without removing Story?

Just bought this game recently and got around to playing and I am a little annoyed with the fact that the game limits you a lot if you don't finish the story first; I was expecting a game more like Morrowind in space where you can pick up the story any time you want after having improved yourself by doing other stuff. Are there any mods that either make all ships and equipment available to all levels or make the level requirements depend on your current worth (I'd prefer this) but still allow you to play through the storyline eventually?

Welcome to TLR.

You can "Freelance to a degree, between missions. You will be limited to "Where" you can go though. Get Ioncross Char Editer and you can open all gates and holes to freelance further in the story game, and you do have a choice in some of the missions as to when you rejoin Juni, other times, you can't pick up side missions untill you complete a story one. When she tells you to look for work, do so, as long as you want, even if she says to meet somewhere.BUT take WARNING. if in those missions you make enemies with those you have to work with in a story mission, it can mess things up, like ticking the police off when you need to dock with manattan.

D/L BigDaddy Storyline Mod v1.3 when it comes out and you well have total freedom with the storyline.

I checked out your current BigDaddy mod, and it seems you already have the functions that I wanted and the mod is pretty exactly what I was looking for as well, I am specifically look at these five points and especially the last two, or have I missunderstood;

- All jumpholes are open after you complete mission one. You must complete all of mission one or it will not work.

- After you are out of Liberty space you can use the Jumpgates, but to get back in to Liberty space you will have to use a jumphole. You need to make use of this feature or Mission 3 might be impossible.*

- Storyline jumpholes now show up on HUD map when you find them. And are usable as soon as you find them.*

- Leveling from 1-40, level 20 requires 48,500,000 credits, level 30 requires 95,500,000 and level 40 requires 999,000,000 credits.

- So leveling up will take some time except through the Storyline. Hint take advantage of the storyline.

Two questions - If I were to start with 1.2 would I have to start a new game for 1.3 and how long till your done on 1.3?

Anyways, while searching for your mod [CTRL+F and "Storyline" I happened to run across another mod which will do for now when paired with Finaldays earlier advice of using Ioncross' save editor to unlock jumpholes until 1.3 is out actually, not exactly wise to jump into such a difficulty rising mod when I've only played Freelancer for two days regardless of how long.

- All jumpholes are open after you complete mission one. You must complete all of mission one or it will not work.

^ This means that after you fly back to Planet Pittsburgh after you destroy the base in mission 1 all jumpholes are open for your use.

- After you are out of Liberty space you can use the Jumpgates, but to get back in to Liberty space you will have to use a jumphole. You need to make use of this feature or Mission 3 might be impossible.*

^ Meaning that you use jumpholes to get out of liberty space and the jumpgates are all usable in any other system. Now to get back into liberty you will have to use any of the jumpholes in any of the independent worlds that jump to liberty to get back in. If you leave after mission 1 you will have to use a jumphole to get back into New York. If you do not leave Liberty you will not get a better ship to fight in for mission 3 because the better ships are not in liberty. So if you try to fight in a starflyer which some have reported to me trying, is suicide. A patriot you could do it in but you have to be a very good pilot or should I say an expert in Freelancer. So it is best to get the Gunslinger, Dagger, or Cavalier. Have fun finding them.

- Storyline jumpholes now show up on HUD map when you find them. And are usable as soon as you find them.*

^ This means that when you get to Leeds and you find the Dublin Jumphole you can use it, now the Cambridge Jumphole never shows up in the vanilla Freelancer but it does now and you can use it. Sigma 13 jumphole in Chugoku is also usable before the storyline allows you to use it.

- Leveling from 1-40, level 20 requires 48,500,000 credits, level 30 requires 95,500,000 and level 40 requires 999,000,000 credits.

^ This is letting people what the level requirements are who D/L the mod. They are very high compared to the vanilla Freelancer

- So leveling up will take some time except through the Storyline. Hint take advantage of the storyline.

^ This is letting you know that leveling is a lot tougher, and longer except during the storyline as it is not possible to change the amount it requires to level up, and therefore you will be up to level 16 before you start doing the Order missions so buy best ship you can before going on mission 10. Because after the storyline if your worth does not match the required level for level 18 then you will go down to the level of your worth.

Two questions - If I were to start with 1.2 would I have to start a new game for 1.3 and how long till your done on 1.3?

^ v1.3 is totally changed in many areas and it would not be compatible with any previous version. I am testing the storyline now, and trying to check as much as possible before I release v1.3. I will release it when I finish mission 13 and everything is working right. To see the changes check out this thread.

if you go roam during the storyline and gettin all the good stuff, its kinda pointless to play thru it at all imo, i mean whats the point in playing lvl 3 mision while flying Eagle with nomads and tizonas.

Well if you have tried my storyline mod you would know that it would be a very long time many hours of play without cheating to get the Eagle and Tizona del Cid. You would have to have a lot of patience and time to play to achieve that. If you do achieve getting VHF before mission 2 or 3 you will have earned it, and you will feel justified in using it.

The no story mod you get when you install mod manager kinda helps.
