M.A.D

M.A.D, mutually Assured Destruction. This concept was active during the cold war. I believe it could have a place in freelancer. My question is would it be possible to make a weapon the blows up a players own ship but also creates a blast powerful enough to destroy all ships in a certain radius regardless of its shields. I thought it might be impossible to bypass the shilds and blow up the ship directy but then i read about the EOA's solorcrusher torpedo. I belive it is a good idea and should be invested into.

You could do this very easily. Simply write a Fuse specifying a very short time-delay for a Mine hardpoint to seperate from the ship, then a second Mine hardpoint. Then sell a Mine dropper that says that it's a "M.A.D. Device", or whatever, and put extra HpMine slots onto ships. Players could then either mount multiple types of Mine... or they could mount a M.A.D. M.A.D.s would just have to have a Fuse that called a big explosion FX and caused a big explosion to occur. Pretty straightforward...

What would be the point of that? Then you would die and... so what?

Unless you're talking multiplayer here. In wich case one in a group could kamikaze leaving some lives left for the rest of the team.

It's a valkyrie thing. They will fight to the last and then take you with them when they can do no more.
