I''m stuck under the sky!

When using the second implementation of the Planetary beacon, I can't launch to the outside of the atmosphere. I've started a new game, without ANY modifications to the game. When launching, the ship begins at the outside edge of the atmosphere, but seems to slide backward. When I have control of the ship, I have about a quarter of a second to get out, or I disintegrate form the heat of exit/re-entry.

Thats what happens when you have a mod based on a model file and the author is not a modeler

AKA T.S.? (vulgar slang for 'too bad')

Any ideas how to fix it?

The point is that this is a concept and not meant for use ingame. If you are wanting to use this for a mod then you will want to create your own model file since this one is meager at best.

Well, Louva-Deus, I found why I couldn't launch. I think. It was that the DockPointA01 was blocking DockPointA02 by being higher (it's z(?) coord was -168 and the 'z' coord for 02 was -330). I made the numbers positive, and was able to launch and land and launch again. Why not use this for the planet directly? just call the Planet a station...

Planet model files can't have hardpoints.

Well, I added some HpDockMounts, etc to a 'planet'.sph file via the UTF editor, and while I can launch, I can't land yet....of course during testing I have to make myself invulnerable because of 'Reentry-burn' or just slamming into the planet when I remove the 'death radius' from a planet. I have seen one (and only one) NPC successfully 'land' on a planet. He'd hit, and turned away, and then instead of exploding, he disappeared. Anyway, I haven't figured it all out yet, but I've found interestingthings out.

P.S. Louva, if you don't want this thread, I'll restart it in Gen. Editing...it's NP for me

Hmm well that blows my understanding of the sph files out of the water. Course I never tried so I guess its ok. The trick will be for you to place the dockmounts and the other hardpoint items at the proper distance from the spheres physical surface to be out of range of the burn zone. This will include making camera hardpoints and stuff for each entry point. If the planet model itself can be the dock point then you can set it to station and allow many ships to dock at the same time.
