Rebuild Update

This thread is to let everybody know how the rebuild is progressing or not as the case maybe.

I still can't believe that I deleted the files without realizing it.As you can guess I've had to start again,at least this time I know where a lot of the errors in the system ini files are.

Archkaine you said you'd thought about using an earlier version to begin the rebuilt with,it wouldn't have mattered which version you'd used as Rebalance has been on a self destruct coarse since the beginning.I've managed to get several of the early versions (0.5 is the earliest) only to find that the system errors start more or less when the mod was started.Granted that back then modding freelancer was in it's infancy and a lot of people didn't know exactly what they were doing,as times moved on and the mods grown more people have added their own errors to it making it worse.Unfortunately at the start the mod was small (2.5MB ) and the errors didn't cause any problems, but as it's grown the errors have become more and more of a problem.**Like a tumor it starts out small but if it's ignored it grows and spreads until it's just to late to do anything about.**

Okay back to the update, I've just spend 4 hours fixing the initialworld.ini, what a mess, from what I've read on these forums there's only 5 numbers you can use in here, but someones gone nuts with the numbers most don't even cross correspond with each other. Now for the empathy.ini, I'm not looking forward to this, I've also made a start on the systems (Br01-Br03).

**I apologise to anyone I offended with my terrible choice of phrasing,I have since edited it to say what I meant it to.**

Just to let everybody know this thread will be updated periodically, the dev team have moved to here rebalance.blue-ion.net so come on over and say Hi!

The least I can say is: I am surprised by this sentence:

If Rebalance was a cancer patient it would be a walking tumor

I played ReBalance from Version 0.6 on. With 1.4 i had to start a new game. I am now on RB 3.50 Beta 3 full - and i am still going on with the savegame I started with 1.4 !!
RB has been one of the most stable mods I played on my system, far more stable than Hostile Universe 8.1 or TNG (except 1.7). It was an innovative mod where a lot of the now common features were firstly implemented to FL-modding.
I am looking forward to your work. But - sorry to say that - after having made such a stupid error without reasonable backup I'd like to ask you to show the respect that is due to such a huge and popular mod.
No personal offence intended.

@zazie, you're system must be one of only a handfull of systems that can run Rebalance without continual CTD's.What I mean by you're system is you're buses & sims, when they are made they are lucky if they work between 70%-85%,the industry hasn't made a 100% one yet. These load hardware errors into your CPU,combine these with all the syntax errors that are in the rebalance files and your CPU can't handle all the errors and CTD.Thats why 3.5 was pulled,to many complaints about crashes.

If you're right about the system then I am veeery happy about the fact that I have a custom-built system with selected parts and 1 GB of RAMBUS. Very stable - I think all computers are stable as granite

Something that you guys may want to keep in mind...

RB 3.5 was a HUGE update over 3.4, there was a lot that was being introduced, and as such, there was a lot that could go wrong, so try to remember that we pulled RB due to the problems in 3.5, not due to problems with earlier versions.

Just to make myself clear I'm not saying that the earlier versions didn't have their share of issues, just that in a lot of cases, there were easier work-arounds. RB 3.5 was not like that. And I've been thinking of other ways to make appropriate changes to the Mod so that we will have fewer problems in the future.

Anyway, zazie, go easy on bejaymac, he meant no disrespect toward RB or the developers of it, he's been very helpful and forthcoming with ideas with us about what he's discovered. So please keep that in mind

Have fun you guys

all of the rebals except 3.5 have been VERY stable on my laptop. only problem is some nomad weaps on the balstar and base in alaska not letting me undock.

i do admit that rebal is adictive and one of the most diverse in weapons, ships and systems. also i do look forword to the next rebal or rebuilet version of it. the raven claw and balstar (spelling i know) have been one of the best ships i have flown. however enuf of that.

hi gents, the main stabilty problems ive had with RB is in running a server for multiplayer. single player probs have been mainly on 3.50 release's, but with the likes on 3.12, 3.2 and 3.4 i had very few sp problems, just the odd ctd and such like. Best of luck with the project and i hope you can sus it out, along with the rest of the team

I think Ro9ue can give you a link to the Addon, if you mean Aten-Addon, he has a site for it.

Glad to see that you're bringing the server back up

Talk to you later

Hey again guys. I have been talking with sabbath and kinda got informed about the RB situation. Although I know nothing about the FL system or how to mod it, I will offer myself to do smaller things (rewriting infocards, or whatever things dont require too much knowledge). I know alot of the things in RB need some more spice and correction as far as info goes. I can do some small modding things I spose if i have some info on how to do them. Just offering my services for RB

Also, if the dev teams needs a webhost for a dev version of the mod, let me know. I do webhosting and can offer limited hosting (but should be sufficient for developers). I assume Lancers can host the final version.

Let me know if you need anything guys,

Ross

Also, the prices in RB are just wacked. Nomad weapons for a couple thousand!? Pfft. Perhaps I could help out on rebalancing these as well (assuming changing prices aint hard to do). I assume everything in FL is through the .ini files. I can learn to edit some of these for the information on places, ships, equipment, prices, etc.

Please let me know if you guys are wanting any help in this area. Also, there seems to be a want for beta testers (someone I met in a 3.4 server tonight). I told him to come here and ask about that.

Hopefully more people will want to relieve some stuff on the main modders. If I can help on the info crap, you guys could maybe focus on getting rid of the bugs or fixing some of the systems.

Thanks again guys for making RB possible again

Heya Ross2376 (wasn't that a base in one or most of the Aliens movies?),

Best thing that you can do for now would be to coordinate your efforts with Bejaymac, and, if you want to, do the infocards and price balancing that you mentioned. Please try to keep things reasonable, and if you have any questions, ask one of the Dev's (Myself, Ro9ue, Bejaymac, Darquies, awts0c {though he's more geared for the SirEx Mod than this one, I'm sure he'd have good ideas}, plus, don't forget the TLR staff if all else fails, those guys rock ).

Also, I believe that Darquies is the guy to talk to about changing prices. If I remember right he updated the entire trading system so that there were not so many uber-trades that were less than 2 systems apart (helped to keep the game challenging).

Please let us know what and how you're doing, we want to keep the team as close-knit as possible, with as much communication as we can handle. So if there are any questions, let one of us know

For future reference, I may start experimenting with Argh's Modding style, using XML, I've played around with his XML Toolkit 1.2, and I'm impressed as I can be with it. It's amazing stuff. Argh, if you're reading this, you freakin' rock man

Anyway, talk to you all later

@ Ross2376, any help on the pricing would be appreciated, but please don't edit any of the info cards at the moment. I say this because at the moment Rebalance has 6 extra dll's for the names and infocards,(according to some of the numbers I've found there should be seven ?) that are less than half full. After I finish the system files I intend to move the names and infocards into as few dll's as possible, this is for 2 reasons, 1) less to download 2) plenty of space for future versions of the mod

@ AK ,I just sent Ro9ue a set of modified shipdealer thn's, hope to see them in SirEx soon as well as Rebalance

Okay on to the update ,Bretonian space is finished as are the border worlds, no more ghost shipdealers any place that sells ships now has a room and NPC to match.Tradelanes that cut through asteroid fields no longer have chunks of rock in thier way, I no longer get the urge to duck now.
I've also added the exe from delta2 so that I can use Alcanders engine sell patch as well as editing it for true speed. I also have plans to implement the open SP and difficulty levels with FLMM script but they can wait.
