*** ALL Rebalance Mod FANS *** READ : Massive Addon/Fix for

Hey all you Rebalance fans, this is Ro9ue, a fellow FL-addict and semi-experienced modder. Though not many people know, I helped a lot on making 3.5 (not bragging, just giving background). ArchKaine and I made the "Aten Add-on" for Rebalance 3.4 (( available here )), and we implemented many of those things in 3.5. However, (not to bash anyone here, just stating the straight up truth , many of the kickass changes and additions were chopped way down, removed, or limited in 3.5. And not only that, but I agree whole-heartedly with what's been flying around lately - all the complaints about the simply retarded engine-kill problem, bonus ships, etc - so I want to let all you guys know about something we're cooking up.

ArchKaine and I are currently working on an "Aten II Add-on" mod for Rebal 3.5. We are going to go back and fix things, add some new things, and try to make Rebal 3.5 the mod it was meant to be: the best one out there to date (like it was during our closed beta testing).

Please post here things you would like fixed. We'll do our best to whip up a nice addon patch to hopefully restore some of Rebalance's previous shine.

And one more thing of note: I am a high school student (currently "studying" as I type ), so I cannot mod 24/7 like I could in the summer. ArchKaine's internet is prone to occasional whacky cut-outs. So while it might seem like this is hopeless :p it really isn't. We just have to work our FL modding into busy schedules, but it IS a major focus for us. So this addon won't pop out in the next week, but it should be ready to go in the next 3 weeks or so.

This is a small (but growing) list of currently fixed problems and added things:
- Engine kill problem fixed for all ships (big w00t, eh? );
- Raptor's cockpit fixed (Predator and Phoenix in progress);
- Tweaks in loadouts for elite ships (difficulty 15-19, just for added kicks);
- The Wrath VHF for The Order (Orillion's personal fighter; deadliest and most advanced fighter designed in Sirius to date. Consequently very rare and high-value piece o' equip )

So please post any ideas, requests, or questions in here, and we'll all try to build Rebal back up to its former whoopaz level that MD intended

I think an add on is a great idea but considering some of the history of this mod shouldnt you have the blessing of Michael Dan, wherever he is, or give it a new Mod name and credit him?
I would be happy to host a demo server if you need one. I am currently hosting the ReBalance Mod 3.4 server and have seen a real drop in interest over the last few months as the beta just never finished.

Yes, permission/blessing from big MD would be appropriate (and appreciated), but I can't seem to even access ... :-/ I'll try emailing him to check.

A host server would indeed be fantastic; I'll get a move on and try to complete this over Christmas.
And I know what you mean about a decline in interest in the past few months; I myself have not played more than about 20 mins of SP in v3.5 because it just ... isn't what it used to be. So I have incentive to try and make it a little more fun (it's pretty fun as it is now, with some recent editing and changes in place. I still think I can improve some more with a little more time, though)

I'll keep ya updated.

Greetings, i also run a rebal server, useing the 3.5 beta version 3 and have a small but regurlar group of players in the server,with the absence of MD i hope that ur project is a sucess, and i will happerly test it on my server. hopefully it will go towards fixing 90% of the bugs if not all of them. The main bug that needs fixing is the ship related crash bug of the cali/maglean jump gate when useing the starting ship. There are other ship bugs too that are anoying that could be fixed too, the Battleaxe is unstable(dont know in what way though) and seems to cause creash's in new london when useing tradelanes, also the viper, a great fighter from battlestar has a cockpit bug which makes it very hard to fly in cock pit mode, theres a list of bug issues posted on my own server website if you wish to have a look, its at

Alright, guys, I have news: MD emailed me back - he has been quite busy with other things (what? computer players have real lives? I didn't know that. Nah, I completely understand - been there, done that lately). So he has not had much time to work on Rebal. He also said that is not going to be around much longer - just too much other stuff going on to keep it up and running. We'll be back to LR for now, but he said he'd open a new Forum for 3.5.

I have already made plans to get this show on the road ASAP. MD gave his blessing for an Addon, and I think he might be able to work on the FInal version after Christmas. But if not, I think he might let us release a "Completion Patch/Addon" to bring 3.5 up to speed.

I'll check on all the bugs I can figure out. The cockpit problems with the Raptor , Predator , and Phoenix are all results of corrupt .cmp files, so I am making new ones (kinda 'refurbished' versions, in a sense - they'll have a couple of little goodies, maybe a couple new mounts for turrets, torps, or shields ). I tested the new Raptor (I called it Raptor-C because it has an operational cockpit view) yesterday, and it works quite well (as does its new CD mount ). I might be able to do the same for the Starviper as well. I'm also adding a completed version (my own, not the one posted today) of the Serafina Bretonian Freighter; I'll probably add this to the AI list of ships, perhaps for Bowex, BMM, or another Bret. shipping corporation/faction. This one'll have a cockpit and a few more mounts for thrusters and shields (might have moderate firepower, but it'll also be able to run pretty well, too ).
I'll read through your posts and forums to try and fix all the bugs I can.

Great news, Ro9ue, looking forward to the Add-on II.
I played RB from 0.9c on and started a new story line with 1.4b full. Since then I went on from version to version with my old save-game !!
Only very few crashes because before upgrading I changed to a "common" ship and sold all stuff. So I hope I don't have to start again with Add-on II - because life is VERY comfortable in RB 3.5 beta 3 when you have about 150 Mio $

Ha, I read you on the hope that the addon won't make you restart ... I think I remember that the first one actually did make you start over ... :-/ But I can see what Ican do. I hate having to restart, too.

I'm going to start on the new (fixed) Predator and Phoenix models here. I might also make some progress in other places today, but I can't be sure (have my hardest final tomorrow - AP Chemistry - so I have to cram for that.

And Black_Sabbath, I tried to use that link in your post up there, but I could not access that site .. I don't know why. Is that the correct address ( ? Thanks

could we have a different starting ship?
seriously, the current one in 3.5 looks like an upsidedown bunny head. erm, who built it anyway?
and could you fix the pricing? I think it was on houston, there was a cool looking shuttle w/ 2 guns. star trek like. that was priced in the hundreds of thousands and had a lvl requirement in the teens. by the time I got the cash and the lvl, who needed or wanted it? I think it would make an interesting starting ship. there are other examples out there like that. light to light/medium ships in the price/lvl range of hammerheads. not right.
could you incorporate the black market mod? at least the commodities?

Hey People,

Just dropping a note to say how much I and Ro9ue appreciate your input, I'm still hacking away at the Wrath, which has now diversified into two seperate versions, and I've also done a few fun things to the Nightshade MkII (brought it up to spec), they'll be available in the addon, once and IF I can get my internet back to a working status.

For those who are wondering... the Wrath, in its two incarnations are going to fly a bit like the NS2, but it won't be as maneuverable, since it's a heavier fighter. Also, it's going to have FULL hyperdrive capability, not some half-assed mockup. I'm having texturing trouble right now, partly because my Milkshape went belly-up (crappy software, I swear). The textures won't export properly to ms3d format from 3dsmax, though I have the max2ms3d plugin for 3dsmax 6. I may have to totally retexture and try again, I dunno. I hope not though, took a long time to get it looking that good.

Well, a few new things in tohoku that I've been playing with... Planet Atum has a ring, and it doesn't cause crashes .... Also, it's got a partially functional docking ring, I haven't gone in and done missions or zones, since those are more Ro9ue's areas of expertise. My specialty is ship design You can purchase the NS2, and the Sobek there, and I've left room for the Wrath when it's completed. That will probably be one of only two places in the game that you're going to be able to purchase the Wrath... The other one being... You guessed it... The Battleship Osiris, there'll be one version at each location, though I haven't decided which to put where... My instinct says to put the Shadow Wrath on Atum, and the Orillion's Wrath on BS Osiris, sound ok to you all? If you're wondering what the differences are between those two variants of the Wrath, you'll just have to wait and see for yourself

Oh, btw, all the modifications that I have made so far to my game files have yet to require me to restart the campaign, I hate that too... the only thing that slightly worries me is when Ro9ue and I go and incorporate our seperate changes... But I'm betting that I'm only worrying out of habit, he's a pretty talented modder

Oh, and Black_Sabbath, please don't delete my character on your server? I've been having internet troubles But I plan to return to kick some Nomad tail as soon as I can

By the way, doing the ship switch (I'd suggest a Titan, as I think it's unmodded, but only if you're friendly with the Corsairs) before upgrading to a new mod-release as a way to prevent save game conflicts is a really good idea, I recommend that everyone who upgrades to Aten II do this, it can save on headaches, and lost hours and days rebuilding your fortunes

Ro9ue and I will do everything we can to maintain compatibility with rebalance 3.5, while updating things and fixing others. My personal recommendation is to install the unofficial upgrade 1.4 patch before running Rebal 3.5 or any upgrades to it, it helps stability a great deal, at least in my experience. *disclaimer... Your mileage may vary due to differences in system configuration, graphics cards, karma, etc...*

Hi arch, i still have ur charater on file m8, so no worries there, i was just wondering, if ur going though the ships in the game to check for bugs or correct any mistakes can you add a second engine to the VAMPIRE(from wing commander), as its surposed to have two enginessame as the rest of the heavy fighters in that series.
Oh and no disrespect to fans of cap ships, but try not to add too many additional cap ships, as i find it does tend to screw up the game ballance just a bit, and also takes the fun out pvp for fans of fighter jocks, unless of course ur gona add a anti cap ship fighter(wishful thinking)

I've just had a conversation with blacksabbath, and he told me you were working on a new version.

I'd be more than happy to help you out, i'm not a veteran FL modder, but i know how the ini files work and how to edit them.
If there's no mod website on yet, i'm sure blacksabbath and i can use the blacksabbath server homepage for the mod. It's a phpnuke site hosted on a free hosting service, but it should serve it's purpose well enough.
Oh, i think i might have a good idea about those capships. Just create a new Shield/Weapon type for the capships, somethign different from Gravitron etc. and make a new type of ship: Banshee. This ship should be a fighter with weapons strong against the Battleship shields.

Alright, guys, I am now out of school - actaully was yesterday, but I was modding all day, so I didn't get to post We're making progress.
There is where things stand now:
- Raptor, Predator, and Phoenix all fixed - cockpit views work;
- Serafina completed, added into game;
- New high-level weapons for Bretonia (always thought it weird that they had up to lvl7 weaps, then that was it. Now have up tp lvl9, new effects and everything)
- Adding patrols to a couple of systems to make a little more interesting;
- New loadouts for elite ships of Rheinland, Kusari, and Bretonia;

I'm working on fixing things as well as I can. I'm going to jump back into the thick of it and work my rear off Keep ya posted.
Ah, and thx for the encouragement and interest - it's good to know that others love Rebal as much as I do. Later
