I was wondering if it's possible to make having a 2nd engine could be an option -- for example, you could choose to mount 2 engines.
Most ships could have this ability, but it wouldn't be free; maybe the second engine would take up 15 or 20 cargo spaces. (Every ship has 1 engine when purchased, but you could buy another one & mount it, sacrificing a little cargo room for more speed/hyper)
This would mean many more ships could go hyper, and I think that would pretty fun.
Is this doable? thanks

Ro9ue, maybe you should know... the so called "hyper" is nothing to do with engines, thrusters, or anything with speed of a ship. Your better to think of it as a glitch when you kill your engines and begin traveling that fast. Have you ever noticed that the original FL ships never have this capability... think about it. Yes, you could make more ships do this.. but thats bad for fighters to have. If you know anything about P v NPC dogfighting, you'll know that engine kill is many times a life saver and if you couldn't use it anymore it could greatly hinder many dogfighting tactics. I would appreciate if you don't suggest we do that, we are trying to increase thrill of play, not make it worse.

Besides, the only thing moving that fast does is help traders get places really fast so they can make money really fast and aviod the 'natural' way of playing freelancer, and while this can ruin the game experience for an individual, it is ok as long as EVERYONE isn't doing it. Your idea (in my opinion) would be a mockery of Freelancer and simply cannot be allowed. After all, its a 'dynamic universe' not a game of paperboy.

Yep, i'll need some beta testing, especially in MP. I want to make sure the EFA system is safe, especially because it's a node of travelling between other main systems, and holds the best equipment and the capships so it should be stable and safe to play in. Everyone willing to participate will be welcome. Some basic FL and RB knowledge is required though...

Ok, i'm gonna try to post some pictures of the last ships I made, a Cloakshape Fighter, a Planetary Fighter and a new model of X-wing with high reolution textures. I hope it will work...

nice work though. Do you think it would be possible to have the torpedo launchers inside grooves like proper X wings?

those screens are a little big. i'd try just posting the links to the screens. it solves both the size problems and the little red x's until you copy and paste the url

Try right clicking on the x and go to properties. It should have an address in there. Cut and paste it to the address bar of whatever you use and you should go to the picture.

Ah, ok, thanks; that worked. Which ship is the one in about 4/5 of the pictures (the one with the fighterjet-like fuselage, 2 wing-mounted engine pods, and one engine slung below)?
Is it the IRD Fighter or Planetary Fighter?

And they all look great; I can't wait to try out the next version! gj

~ Oh, and I was inder the impression that ANY ship with 2 engines had the hyper ability; all of the double-engine ships that I've piloted do.

The reason none of hte original FL ships had it was because enigines didn't even come into the question EVER; all ships (light, medium, HF, VHF, freighters) ALL went 79 m/s, and ALL went 199 w/a single thruster. Engines weren't even mentioned in the ship stats.

I think that being able to cross large expanses of space quickly is a very useful feature, facilitating exploration and traversing big systems (like the TX system); AND it adds to mobility in dogfights instead of "detracting" from agility.
~ My previous posts were just inquiries for the Mod designer and an expression for my appreciation of this feature. Even if it was available to all, not all would HAVE TO use it; if a player prefers the old enginekill, they wouldn't be obligated to use it.

If you look, that's actually how all the new ships are (I'm pretty sure, anyway). All the ships I've flown like the DagXR, the Hornet, the Slipstream, the SabreXR, StillettoXR... I think almost all of the new ships have this strange characteristic.
I don't know WHY exactly, but this has been my observation.
