Erm - Duriel - to speak in reference to pervious posts - i think hobbes is saying that:

When making anything in the ini files - you are using instructions and reference lines programmed by microsoft. Regardless of whether you write it for something different - you use lines like
hp_gun =
nickname =
ids_info =
local_faction =
[Object
all of which are microsofts. So - regardless of what you are doing, if you use any coding that is already in any of the ini files, its microsofts. As in, they made those instructions mean something. UNLESS you can make brand new instructions work for the mod, you cannot copyright it. I think that is what he means, but honestly - i no longer care.

Anyway - reason for my posting. I know you are trying to verify where that email came from - but, in all sincerity - have you fowarded it onto microsoft lawyers as well? Chances are they would be rather interested in their own supposed rebel lawyer group who issue demads without their knowledge.........but sign it as official! - oh, and use their IP as well..........i am sure they would persue and press charges a HELL of alot better than you guys (no offense).

we aren't copyrightig to format or the files. we are copyrighting the ideas. the way we have thngs set up. it's all just a collection of instruction sets, yes, but we aren't copyrighting the instruction sets themselves, just what the refer to.
