You really want to download 50mb patches????

Ok,

Basically, till now, we've been releasing patches. Now, we have to do full versions all the time because some people do not follow instructions.

It's just, some people have bad Internet connections (E.g: A 56k Modem), and now they have to downlaod around 40 - 50 meg which is seriously unfair on them.

Hi Guys
While the standard of your mods is maintained I for one am prepared to suffer long downloads, however would it be possible to supply the updates in patch form for those of us that can follow instructions?

I have DSL so i can download 50MB in no time, like 10 min if that.

How about creating download mirrors?

I'm on cable so 50 mb is nothing for me.

The only problem with mirrors, is keeping track of what and making sure everyone has the same version.

I can make a download mirror in a few seconds.

This is my website. I pay good money for it each year. Never been offline, 10GB bandwith limit per month. Think about it then let me know if you're interested.

I guess you're not interested. Oh well.

If you want to host it also, thats fine, plus please remember to stay current with the verions and patches. I don't want people downloading incorrect or corrupted versions.

10 gig a month?? that will go in no time with TNG being downlaoded. my website ( official Starfyre site) has 30 gigs a month and approxmately 1000 transfers of of TNG and im down for a month. Now how long do you think it would take for 1000 pople to download tng?? not that long. or maybe 500 people downlaoding it teice czu their stupid

Post Sun Aug 17, 2003 7:40 pm

Aye people are forgetting this is about 30 meg

If we get about the estimated 10,000 downloads then that would be 300 gigs worth of traffic. That is even pushing MY server limits. I can afford about 250 gigs but not more.

As I said before I don't have a problem with people hosting it, but please keep up on current versions and please DON'T blame us if it eats up all your bandwidth usage.

reynen i think that you need to relise 2 mods per a new verson

1st mod is the patch
2ed mod is a full verson with the patch installed

but ofcause peaple might be stubed anofe to download both and stuff up FLTNG

so its up to you(go with my idea cause others have 56k and can only download 1 30mb mod a month and keep on downloading small things)(i allso under stand how to install the patchs)

Theres a problem with that (^_^)

And that is thats its a hell of alot of an effort to get 2 versions. Especially if you can't remember what you have done by the end of the Next Version. (The same thing happened to me when I couldn't figure why my mod isn't working...)

I was on 56k for a long time before DSL & i fully understand what a pain in the butt it is.

Perhaps the patches could be made as separate FLMM mods that one activates over the existing base TNG files? or am i ignorant and that happens to be either impossible or _exactly_ what u were doing prior?

Um.. You know, my internet connection is 56kbps, and it took about 3 hours to download TNG 1.60... My personal comment is I think you should make patches for the small updates like 1.58-1.59, and make full installation files for big patches like 1.60 -2.00.
