Mission 4 slaughter

Using tng 1.4 on dell d600 laptop with win xp pro - everything fresh installed. SP game started from scratch using ver 1.4.

When I try to leave Manhatten at the beginning of mission 4, I get slaughtered before the film sequence ends. Ship blows up so fast I don't even have time to hit f for shields. We're talking sub-second destruction here..

Can this be punishment for flying off to the nexus and buying a shadow fighter with a lvl 8 shield (that's all I could afford)? Shouldn't I stand a better chance than with an a-wing and lvl 6 shield??

I've seen other posts saying that they were hurt bad at the start of mission 4(half of the shields are destroyed), but I'm just getting slaughtered - absolutely zero survival chance (tried 3 times).

Has anybody else run into this? I see no way of salvaging this game..

This is a AI problem, I made them a bit too hard in 1.4 patch and I am sorry. This will be fixed in the 1.5 release, please be patient as we are working on this.

MML, I have the same ship you do (love that shadow beam), and am stuck there too. I've tried plenty of times and as soon as I try to dock with the tradelane after it's all over, those two cruisers annhialate me instantly. Since the Starfyre guys have pretty much figured out the mission 12 problem that you've probably heard about, I am going to wait for 1.5 to before I go any further.

Keep up the good work Rey...I hope after this initial phase of debugging and getting a sense of what causes bugs, that you guys start thinking about throwing in more complicated missions on the job boards. Though the game gives you freedom, it lacks in depth. When you guys are past the initial debug phase, please give that some thought.

If the single player game is too hard try this cheat....

This will NOT work in multiplayer.

Yupp, I thought of that too today - easy way of working around the problem. I actually managed to scrape together enough credits for a lvl 10 shield and a hull upgrade, but that only improved the odds from "impossible" to "very unlikely survival". After blowing up a few times I switched to god mode.

I made it out - but I had a liberty cruiser hehe. It was a close one but I managed to scrape by. But then when I was at the Lane Hacker base and tried to launch I was stuck in the launch bay and couldn't get out. I had to buy a smaller ship there so that I could continue on.

Yeah, I guess I'll use God Mode also...tried the damn mission 40 times. I'd like to make it thru the right way, but it is too weighted to those damn cruisers. The problem will be fixed in 1.5, so it might be worth just waiting for that.
