Does anyone remember which program...

Okay, first of, I have searched Lancers for the last several hours in both the search function the editting utilties forum, even poured over cache google links from our old Freeworlds forums where I was first given the link and scoured my hard drive incase I included it with my backup files to no avail, hence me finally coming here and asking.

I remember there being a program that enabled you to open up files like CMP's, MAT's, DFM's etc... just like the UTF Editor, but instead of displaying it in a tree format, displayed it as a text kind of file. But can I for the love or life of me remember what it is called or remotely find any links associated with it.

So, does any one remember what this program is called and where I can find it before I drive myself insane?

Not FLModelTool, thats for adjusting Sur's and CMP's. This was a program that allowed you to go in and edit the information directly.

Basically, I know it exists because I used it before, and though UTF does a lot of what I need, this had one function it allowed me to do that is incredibly useful, rename meshes in the DFM files, which means you can build multiple NPC models off the same mesh file without the conflicting the name problem that if the multiple models are shown in the same scene, only one of them would actually show.

is it the Microsoft Visio?

Nope, but that might do the trick.

Essentially, the program just laid all the code out in a format simalar to a notepad file, just lines and lines and lines of text.

You might be thinking of the Freelancer XML project...

Seems to be a cool tool, though the reconverting of the xml back to utf gave me an error when I tried it (and I haven't yet checked what caused it, prolly a screwed-up download)

Aldebaran.. doesn't renaming the DFM textures under Multilevel/Mesh#/Face_groups/Group#/Material_name get the results you want? it worked for me when i cloned/retextured some hands to make 'cybernetic' ones for my cvfc mod

btw, the XML project is not perfect - using it to integrate a material library into cmps i found that it would drop a couple polygons on every model - maybe not a problem with DFMs, but i thought it worth mentioning

I think XML Project may well have been the one I was thinking off, thank you all for your help, I can get stuck into making some new NPC's again for both Freeworlds 1.68 and the new ST:First Genesis projects.

And no, sadly renames in UTF Editor haven't seemed to work for me in the past

There is the Freelancer Model Cloner that lets you rename texture IDs.

ya but theres no point trying to use it on DFMs;since they don't use CRCs to call the materials

just to say it again; renaming the textures throughout the file as i described earlier _will_ accomplish the desired cloning effect; eg two cloned models share the screen without sharing textures. I'll send examples on request via email
