Medals and ribbons

I see there is a locker that is empty and I am assuming that awards or decorations go in there.
Does anyone know what they are called, how you earn them, and what they look like?
My manual doesn't say anything.

You earn them by completing certain key missions. (such as number 7 I believe)
Others can be received by completing several missions with an extrs effort. Take a look at the walktrough at this side for the extras.
