Help!! Lancer Bug!!

Hey guys. BRAND NEW Starlancer here

I just got the game today from a Ebay auction. Installed great and everything...Just ONE problem...

The first time I played it Guess what the problem is.....
The guns are constantly firing. I can't get them to shut off.

I can switch between weapons but no matter what they keep firing. Oh. PRIMARY weapons. Missiles are fine.

I have only tried in Instant Action and the Training Missions.

Anyone heard of this before????????

I am using a Windows XP... I don't know the exact hardware but it is pretty new and the stuff should all be accurate. I am using a Logitech 3D-PRO Joystick.. It works good (Never had trouble with it, stays calibrated and still works on other games).

If anyone could help I would be HUGELY grateful Starlancer looks likes a 5 star game and I can't wait to try the missions (I will after posting this But thought that since I want to play the right way (Guns not constant firing) I should ask early and then give it some time )

Thanks!

always good to see a new Starlancer recruit, it's a wonderful game and I still play it.

Sadly however I don't think that I have never come across this problem of yours, but I'm suspecting a dodgy control button on your joystick, or a stuck key on your keyboard, or a keyboard mapping conflict. Less likely although worth checking out, you haven't got conflicting DirectX installs (you'd have DX9c if you're on XP & SP2 but the DX version that shipped with SL was 7 or 8 iirc) and very bizarre things happen with messed-up DirectX installations.

edit - And as I'm writing this I've just remembered that the only time that I ever saw this problem of yours actually was a messed-up DirectX installation!

go to the setup of the game and put fire on a different button
if it stops working you know that something with that button was not ok

Ok.
#1 Checked Buttons. Still did it with other buttons.
Next.

Ok About this "Messed up Direct X".

Sounds like that...How come I havent noticed any problems with anything else? Because SL is a little older/rougher on that aspect?

If so I have a couple questions.
#1... Your saying That basically we have DX9 AND DX 7 or 8 installed at the same time?
#2. Sorry about this Not a real computer whiz. I know a fair bit but when it comes to the hardware (Graphics, sound, drive, etc.) I am a real caveman

ok.. Couple more things.

I was playing the game. And since it did it from the beginning I didn't notice. But the "Incoming message" ring was constantly sounding as well.

NOW...Here is the "Interesting" part... I was just playing Starlancer (With the trouble) and In the middle of a cutscene (Level 10 btw. Where Gamma drops out of the Reliant) the game shut down with a error.... Now I restarted the game. VOILA!!! It worked GREAT.. It only fired when I wanted and the ringing was gone.

ALSO... Because of this I noticed something else. My max speed was 260 where I thought it had been 142 because that is where it had stayed (Another bug).

I am sorry to keep buggin ya but is this a DirectX thing? I was gonna do something (Or more like get help to do it) but this having a error then it works...That seemed REALLY strange...

I think I will disconnect the Joystick and see if that cures it... If it does...I dunno.. I only got it and another exact one like it...I guess play with keyboard.

P.S. I completed 9 or 10 missions already GREAT GAME!!!! sorta tough with 1/2 speed and constant firing What I been doing is only picking ships(Only Grendel so far) with 2 sets of guns then leaving the lasers firing, conserving the 2nd guns ammo supply.

MANY THANKS!!!!

I'm very pleased that your problem sorted itself out. SL is a great game, in some ways better than FL imho, but it can be a little buggy at times, I had lots of ctd until I figured out the correct config for the game.

#1... Your saying That basically we have DX9 AND DX 7 or 8 installed at the same time?

it's very possible, although it isn't really a matter of two installs at the same time, it's an earlier version overwriting parts of a later version, and it happens quite a lot. Many installs include the DirectX redist and if this is an earlier version, it can automatically install itself and b*gger up your current version. Even I've inadvertently done it a few times, but it depends on the install routine.
