Mission 22 Crash

Well i've travelling along... playing this wonderful space opera and i'm kicking tail in mission 22, sneaking along when the Golden something or others show up. I destory the leader with no problem. Then start picking off each of the other Golden boys, when all of a sudden i kill one and in the midst of his screams, Bleep... back to the Desktop... no error no warning no nothing... i've played this scenero multiple times and each time its the same... there doesnt seem to be anything special about the one Golden Boy that i kill but everytime i kill one of them the game kicks me out to the desktop.

HELP HELP HELP...

I haven't seen any patches or fixes or anything for this game... and as i understand it i'm almost finished... this would be a crappy ending if i cannot play to the complete end of the game... anyone have any suggestions??

I am running an AMD 2 GHZ, 2 gig mem, 120 meg HD, Win 2k OS.

I have experienced this problem several times while playing this mission, in fact it happens on several missions. I got through it by just replaying many, many times. Also, destroying the last fighter from the first wave spawns the Golden Warrior wing, my first thought was to delay killing this last ship for as long as possible, then damage it and let the wingmen finish it off. This seemed to help.

This is a common Starlancer problem. It's an old game, and just isn't up to kicks on most modern (XP) machines.

Here's my advice:

Turn ALL The special Effects and graphics options to their lowest playable setting, ESPECIALLY 3D sounds. this is usually enough to get past the one (or two) missions that are giving you trouble. 3D sounds especially seem to be the cause of most system crashes.

The game may not look as pretty but at least it's playable. And IMO, this game still looks pretty awesome to me. I think it holds a card to modern games, even though they have flashier stuff.

I've heard of a patch someone made to fix those problems, is this true? I would love to know becuase I get crashes on mission 13.

It's not true. Read my post. 90% of the time turning down the options will fix the game.

its just the 3d sound thats the problem just turn that off and the game plays fine i had this a lot in the early stages of the game and i nearly gave up but i asked around and this is the answer i got and it works

turning anything else off doesnt seem to have any effect i thought it was graphics at first and then my hard drive or even memory but its just this 3d sound weirdness
