Is there anybody out there

Um, hello? Anyone there? Anyway, I just downloaded the SL demo, and I was wondering if any other FL peeps had ever played the original and what their thoughts on it were. Personally, I felt it was cool enough, but it was just like any other shoot 'em up, it didn't have teh originality of our beloved FL. Anyone else in the same boat? --- VH16

Dude! Someone elce accually exists on these forums! And for a couple of days I was thinking I was the only one. I got the SL demo a few days ago and loved it. But my CD Rom drive doesn't work and I can't go get a copy of Starlancer anyway. So for the past two days I have been trying to get Kazaa to download the full game, but Kazaa keeps crashing at loadup. But anyway there is someone still here so your not alone Viva

STARLANCER KICKS ASS!!!!!!!
I got it at EB 3 months ago, it gave my old Interceptor Joystick a good workup.
Only thing i dislike is that Ships that have blindfire and 2 or more gun sets dont have blindfire on when you have full guns selected, youve gotta select a gun.

I wonder If it supports Sidewinder.....

On a side note, Aravis. Bargib (or Gibby) is the Creator/Top Admin/bla bla bla here, not just a mod.

I've never played Starlancer, but I've heard that it's supposed to be really good.

I got starlancer in a bargain bin for $1.

It was a pretty good game IMO, but I'd rather play Freelancer any day. More up to date graphics, and an open-ended universe. Sorry, Starlancer.

starlancer HUD is definitely alot better than Fl's. i think the storyline's better too. FL has just the sad old alien invasion.

and also FL ships just have too many damned guns. i mean, what ship has 7 'turret' guns mounted? and the missile launchers, you gotta admit they look sad. i'll stop here before i go into a rant.

Freelancer is, well, crap. Point and click combat, ugly display, third person default view and ship designs that look like Brice tutorials.

Starlancer is a better combat game. Period. If it was open ended like Elite then it would still be a a great game. But it is now almost five years old now . . .

Well, we've given this old forum quite a bit of business. I just didn't like how the controls were hard to figure out, you kind of had to find them on your own. I know, being guided step by step through the first mission as a tutorial can get kind of boring, but it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to dock. The torpedoes are much sweeter in this game, though. Any recomendations on where I can purchase it, or any SL people out there willing to part with it? I think it's worth my time. --- VH16

I dled the demo at the beggining of this month and I was really impressed! It's like Call of Duty for space sims! I agree that the HUD and cockpit views are miles ahead from FL, but I just prefer FL for it's freedom and mouse support(I'm no fan of keyboard flying and I don't own a joystick). If SL had mouse support, it would seriously rock the house.

And if you think SL's controls are hard to figure out, try playing Frontier: First Encounters.

Me knows kendo. Yeah I dug up my Wingman Atack 2 joystick and am having a halluv a time playing SL Its kinda hard aiming But its alright. The only thing that makes me mad is that the limited afterburner. I equipped a fuel pod and only got a lil over 2 mins. But Ive think I got the hang of it. BTW Does anyone know what Devote full power to blah blah equalls?. So faqr ive found Enigine = more speed, shield = faster recharge, weapons = ?

If you're having trouble aiming, use the Predator. It comes equiped with "blind fire," which allows your recitricle (spelling?) to track the target even if you're only moderately near it. --- VH16

" . . . kinda hard to aim . . ."

Exactly! and that is why I will always prefer Starlancer to Freelancer whilst wishing that I had the Freelancer universe to play in. Takes skill to fly a ship in Starlancer.

Just practice your flying

It's surprising how important the flying is to my gaming happiness. Freelancer was a huge let down for me (though lots of people like it, I know) because of it's control system. I did try, honestly I did, but I just hated it.
So I was looking forward to X2 but that was awful too but in a different way. In X2 flying skills didn't help you. He who had the best ship won, for the most part and the AI often caused combat to end when it incompetently rammed you. D'oh!
I have faith though. Another game to carry on the Wing Commander genre will arrive eventually.
