What do u fly in multiplayer matches?

When I was a n00b I used wolverine because it is uber deadly and because everyone else used one and I learned the best ship to take out a wolverine (with an experienced player) is to use a wolverine. So, on the dreamcast, we decided to boycott it and now there is lots of variety and I'm wondering if it is the same on the PC.

I have migrated from Tempest, to Pheonix, to Reaper, to finally the Shroud.

So, I would like to get a small census of the ships people fly. I will vouch for dreamcast players at onlineconsoles.com as I can ask there and put their responses in this thread.

Shroud = 1

i don't know. i've not played SL enough for me to get a grip on the firing without blindfire. i always liked the patriot though, lots of hardpoints, good speed, good guns, good refire rate, thought not as fast as those on the phoenix.

phoenix gets second place, few hard points, the nova cannon is the supreme anti-slow/stoopid stuff.

so i guess patriot gets my vote. it spoils the fun if you play with shrouds.

On the PC I can take a Wolverine out with anything - including a Predator - because it turns like a pig. Online you used to find that nobody flew anything other than Phoenix or Shroud.

Ban reverse thrust fighters however and there is a good argument for flying a Mirage or a Patriot. Never fly a Tempest. Ever. The tachyon cannon are too far apart for decent targeting and the ship lacks weapon energy.

Ban REVERSE THRUST! Fly something other than a phoenix for a change!

Are missiles and other secondary weapons allowed in the PC version? That would be cool. On the dreamcast version, you can get only missiles and mines by flying through a powerup beacon. There are also other powerups, but those are the only weapons.

I can also take out a wolverine in just about anything as long as it is one on one. Whenever I play against five other wolverines, I'll be firing at a wolverine like 5-10 when another wolv just shows up and blows me to pieces in three shots. That is the reason we all agreed to not use it, at least, the most experienced players. It really surprises me that u say everyone uses the phoenix on the PC. Its weapons are terrible against anything with decent armor.

Anyway, here are some of the results from my other poll and this one so far:

Shroud = 1
Patriot = 3
Wolverine = 1
Mirage = 1
Phoenix = 1
Naginata = 1

I'll continue to add as more votes are cast.

apart from the patriot, I really like the reaper. the vulcano cannons are great for taking out shields and there's room for a plenty of rockets.
