Joystick

After playing Freelancer for about 6 weeks, I thought off trying a new game, so I bought...Starlancer, yee.
I thought playing the "prequal" would be fun and then I could join in with the Starlancer/Freelancer comparing topics...
Anyway, I must say It looks good, concidering it was made some 8 years ago.
They just forgot the mousecontrols.
Stupid mistake, I understand, can happen, they made it up with Freelancer anyway...
But I kinda suck at using the keybordcontrols, so I'd like to buy myself a joystick and that's where you guys come in:

What is the best joystick to use with Starlancer?

Thanks allready...

Actually, the sticks back then might not still be on the market.
Here's a good rule o thumb:

As heavy duty as possible
As many buttons as possible
Throttle usually is useless, unless a separate unit.
Open it up & remove the centering springs

As I remember, I tried the SL demo but it was so lame in comparison to
Tachyon: The Fringe game I was playing, I un-installed it.

to Nickless:

Actually, Starlancer came out only 3 years ago in 2000... For a REALLY old game of the genre that came out 8 years ago you will have to go to Privateer 2. Privateer 1 (10 years old! DOS game!) IMHO is more fun than Privateer 2 though because of the bigger game universe and a number of other things.

As far as joysticks go, it's subjective. Some people like floppy sticks without any resistance. Some people prefer sticks with very heavy spring resistance for added positional feedback and awareness. Some people like sticks that shake and quiver in their hands for some perverse reason .

Best thing to do: Go to your local computer store where they have a selection of sticks and try out their feel. Go with the one you like.

wow Frobozz that's bizarre. I played Sl at the same time as Tachyon; the Fringe and thought SL was far superior, I actually used to refer to Tachyon as "the Fridge" because it was so lifeless. SL had it's faults and Tachyon looked better, but SL had much better gameplay and storyline. Still it wouldn't do for everybody to like the same things, would it.

Bang on about the joystick 'though. @ the time MS were heavily promoting the Sidewinder FF for SL, I used a Saitek X7-38(flimsy) then played SL again last year with a Saitek ST330 FF(solid but a bit stiff) and had another bash at the weekend with a Sidewinder FF2 which is really solid and smooth. Basically the more you shed out the better you get.

..you think you're done with the past; but the past isn't done with you..

I just loved TTF's Slide maneuver sooo much, I couldn't live without it.
FL Engine Kill is a pale, pale, imitation.

you can pick up the original SW FrceFeedbcks for about 10-15 bucks on ebay now. THey are everywhere - and the feedback implementation in the game is pretty decent.
