After SL, the 45th got a R&R leave. The shuttle that was used to ferry them to Eroticon Six experienced engine failure and burned up in Titan orbit. Without the invincible 45th, the Alliance lost

Maybe they packed Alpha 2 off in a cryo chamber for further study?

well, it must've been a long war, and a lot of things sometimes depend on luck. In addition to that, there was no sequel to SL, so how can you expect the Alliance could've won without you?

I'm not sad - I'm sober[!

So you should know that Snake was a clone of the world's greatest soldier, yes? I was kinda thinking that the Alliance was trying to pull off something similiar...

Yeah and the President of the US was also a product of the same Cloning Project, right?

Yeah. Just go along those lines, there's my theory.

It was only 100 years. The timespan of SL is pretty short - just the very beginning of the war. Perhaps the Coalition wasn't as organized as they thought they were. Maybe it took them a few years to gain the upper hand.

Here's another theory: During WWI, the RAF created a special squadron targetted specifically to eliminate Manfred von Richthofen - the Red Baron. Perhaps something similar crossed the minds of the Coalition leaders. Maybe they studied the tactics of the "Flying Tigers" and then created a squadron to take advantage of those tactics. Then they either eliminated them one-by-one in several skirmishes or set up an ambush with top-of-the-line cloaked ships and destroyed all of them at once.

Or, most probably, the 45th wasn't just good enough since we were not allowed to do our job?

I thought that the Sleeper Ships were launched during StarLancer, but just wasn't mentioned. The Coalition assaulted the Alliance after a fake peace treaty, and the Alliance launched sleeper ships in response. Then that's when the 45th Volunteers (later to be renamed "Flying Tigers" turned the tide of the war and pushed back the Coalition.

So far I haven't seen any evidence otherwise, and it makes it make sense.
