SL Gurus, I need some help please

I first posted this as a reply in another topic but got no response so I thought I would try this.

I have a Logitech Wingman Extreme joystick, but it will not work in SL. It is detected and working fine in Windows, as well as other games. I have tried messing around with the SL .ini file but with no luck. Tried the Logitech support site as well as Microsoft's(a long shot, I know).

Hopefully someone more experienced with this game can shed some light. Thanks.

Here are my specs:
Win XP Pro
P4 2.0 gHz
1.024 mb RDRAM
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer

All drivers are up to date and EAX is disabled in the game to prevent crashing.

Maybe downloading the latest drivers would help?

I'm not sad - I'm sober[!

Thanks for the help so far.

Actually I do have the latest Logitech drivers, so hopefully that isn't the problem.

Are there any special steps or tweaking on the game you guys had to do in order to get your joysticks working?

hey fella... i have the logitek wingman force feedback joystick working fine...

try to reinstall the game and check you have the logitek profiler set up for star lancer... you can also make a shortcut to starlancer thro the launcher tool... thaty way you know the device is working...

personally tho i've never had a problem with any joystick and this game... i killed a cyborg 3d, then a sidewinder, and then the stick you have before i got onto this one...

(note for the guy that keeps killing joysticks... force feedback ones seem to handle lots more punishment... mines over a year ald and has out lasted any joystick i've ever owned)

nesbitt, thanks. your tips helped me out a bit. i have the buttons on the stick working now in game, but i am still having problems with the throttle and actual ship movement. even though i mapped the throttle, x and y axis', they still don't respond in flight and i end up just sitting there.

i don't suppose you still remember the specific settings you used within the stick profile manager to make it work?

i just have them set @ default setting...

have you updated your wingman software... originally a year ago i was using the 3.62 drivers and profiler without a problem. Now i have the 4.20 drivers and still no problems... if you have an earlier version it could be you have a problem/conflict with the drivers...

have you tried to use the stick with any other games??? it could be the actual stick thats having the problems... and you might find you have to replace it.

I have updated my software to the 4.20 since I first installed the game and stick a week ago. The stick works fine with MS Flight Sim and Mechwarrior Mercenaries.

I found a "Wingman" site on the net last night that hosted downloadable profiles for specific games. I found one for SL, but you guessed it, and had no luck. Actually that was even worse than what I had been able to do myself. I hate to think that I may have to put this in the back of the drawer with other older games, but I am running out of options.

In the profiler software I can get the buttons to work just not the stick(x and y axis) or throttle. It has to be something specific that the software wants mapped in order for the game to recognize and I just haven't figured it out yet.

I will keep playing around with it. Thanks for the help and replies so far.

I've got a wingman attack 2 and no profiler... Works fine with SL...

You checked out all the setttings in the game options of SL? If SL doesn't detect a joy stick on it's first start up it defaults to keyboard.

Another thing... Make sure the joystick is on gaming controller ID 1... Or it won't be noticed...

Just a couple of suggestions.
