pathfinding between systems

hey.

2 or 3 days ago i posted somewhere about whether anyone has found out about the systems_shortest_path.ini and the other such files, but since i had ISP trouble i could only check for replies today and the topic has misteriously disappeared. if it was deleted, i don't know why.

anyway, this isn't just a redundant topic. i'm posting this in the editing tutorial forum because i have found it out. it's simpler than i thought, embarrassingly simple actually

the confusion was caused by the fact that it seems like that every line is just a random list of systems. i have found out that the first 2 systems are paramters: the first one is the source system, and the 2nd one is the destination. from then on it's a sequential list of systems to go through. i haven't yet found why there are 3 different inis for this (shortest path [108k, shortest legal path [46k, shortest illegal path [110k). i think the shortest legal path is only for "official" stuff, like it uses jump gates instead of jump holes (which is quite annoying in the omicron systems). but the difference between the shortest illegal path and systems shortest path files is still unknown.

anyway, the project i talked about (TradeStuff) is pretty functional now, but i don't know where should i post it. it's not really a mod, it's not really a tutorial, and it's not really an utility. it's rather a helper webpage. so where should i post it?

weird sig.

You were going in the right direction heh...

Systems_Shortest.ini = Shortest route using both jump gates and holes

Systems_Illegal.ini = Shortest route via jump holes

Systems_legal.ini = Shortest route via jump gates

Using FLExplorer, you can actually add your custom systems to the mix correctly, including paths from the originals and updates reflecting gates and holes between custom and origianl systems.

If you did your systems by hand and not with FLEx., you'll have to recreate the gates and holes in each of the custom systems. If you started out with FLEx., just create an "unnatural" link, prefereably from a custom system to an original that you don't intend to be there. After creating the gates and holes, remove both, including the zones that are left after deletion. The path files should then be updated, adding your custom system to the list and adding paths from the originals. This can alter the paths to and from other systems, making use of the shorter routes you may have created. Also, you may have to do this for each of the custom systems as sometimes it covers them all at once, or just the one at a time.

When all else fails...

RUN AUG RUN!!!
