Whats the best program for editing Freelancer''s .ini (confi

I have been using notepad for a while until one time I had opened the universe.ini file in the Freelancer Universe folder to find out that all the text is messed up. Here is an example of what it looks like.
Ð # ë. 5 6< ¯
 Á € * 0 Ç C Ð # L< 5 Q< ¯ Á € * 1 Ç C Ð # +/ 5 g< ¯ Á € * 1 Ç C Ð # < 5 …< ¯
 Á € * 1 Ç C Ð
Which program do you reccomend for editing Freelancer and avoiding problems like this?

BTW: The file had been editable before, but now the format was completely screwed up and editing it is impossible.

download Bini or a derivative thereof from the downloads section. It will decompress the inis to txt format, which you can edit with notepad for wordpad. Change the .txt extension back to .ini and fl can use that as-is(no recompression needed).

Thanks for the help, but Im just wondering. How do you convert the .txt file back to an ini to be used by the program? Bini just changes the name of the file to (name).ini and to a txt file and copies it. I can't figure out how to change it back, though. Changing the .txt to .ini doesnt work because its already .ini! Help?

as long as the extension is .ini, no matter if whats inside is compressed ini or decompressed txt, freelancer wil take it.
