Prometheus MOD

As already stated, the Prometheus Mod 1.0 is just the beginning. 1.1 is almost done (adds NPC encounters, they are tough!), as a next step I will rebalance ships and weapons step by step. What I mostly need is ideas for weapons you would like to see. As they currently are, many weapons are unpopular, because they are too weak, have same damage as other weapons at higher power usage etc.

Please don't ask for Photon torpedoes or stuff like that, there are other mods with those. This is about modifying existing weapons so that (hopefully) no weapon exists of that all people say it's just crap, while still remaining some unique details you are used to (for example, don't ask me to set the firekiss's refire rate to 8.33...).

If you're going to rebalance weapons... I have some suggestions:

1. Remove about 70% of them. FL has dozens of totally-redundant weapon designs. This can be accomplished through hacking the loadouts.ini and market_misc.ini files- there's no reason to remove the current guns... just select the ones you want, and edit those two files so that the other ones just never show up in the game.

2. Look at the way FPS games do this. Good ones, like Counter-Strike, have almost every weapon balanced so that:

A. Even the weakest weapon can kill the strongest player.
B. Skill matters.
C. Skill > $$$

Well, I'd like to keep the variety though. What weapons will the Gaians use if I remove their weapons because no one ever uses them as a player?

They'll use weapons that have the same stats as other, balanced weapons, but look different- it's easy enough to change the looks of things.

And variety ... is overrated. Counter-Strike doesn't have 50 guns, and nobody complains. Battlefield 1942 doesn't either. Quality and thoughtful design > quantity, every time.

I think FL's "you have to search high and low just to find what clanners are using to pwn nubs with" approach to MP was a really horrible idea. In my mod, Warriors of the Sky, I have 5 weapons. 5. And one of them is a bomb rack. Nobody complains that combat isn't interesting or rewarding, either- go get Alpha 4 if you don't believe me...
