Gates of Fire mod

Black Knight Studios are currently working on their first major modification
project for Freelancer with the working title "Gates of Fire." A
ROLEPLAYING mod it puts you in the shoes of a character of your choice, be
it Bretonian or Liberty Navy, a Pirate, an Outcast, a Trader etc in the wake
of the initial stages of a Nomad Invasion of Sirius. The Border and Edge
Worlds have fallen unable to mount a successful defence, some stations are
believed to be holding on but contact has been lost for many months. Nomads
are already on the Borders of the four Houses who are gearing up for war,
moving their battleships to their borders and stepping up their military
prescence. The independent worlds are swarming with Nomads so direct contact
between the houses is minimal. Omicron Gamma has fallen and the Corsairs
have retreated and set up home in Dresden opposite the Red Hessians.
Reinland has pulled out of the system. You can take the role of your choice
even to the point of being a Nomad.

>The mod is in the early stages of production but is moving along well, we
dont have even a rough release date yet but the main features are

>Heavily modified systems, as i mentioned many systems are destroyed or Nomad
ravaged, Nomads are swarming through the Independent worlds as such it is
hard to move anywhere, trading debtween houses will be extremely dangerous,
but profitable.

>VHF's for all 4 houses, and a balancing for all the current house fighters,
to even up the odds should they decide to fight each other plus faction
specific weapons, hopefully new torpedo bombers for the houses too, to help
take down those battleships

>Pilotable Capital ships, Battleships, destroyers and gunboats, including
Nomad ships. But be warned they will cost a phenominal amount of money to
buy and maintain. Only fleets owning multiple profitable stations will be
able to afford them.

>A territorial control system, players will have the chance to directly
influence the war by fighting for possession of jumpgates, bases, planets
and eventually entire systems. As a Nomad you will be pushing for the
complete destruction of humankind and as the Navy you will be desperately
pushing the Nomads back or fighting for possesion of other houses stations
to fund your war effort. Territorial claims will be updated in regular
patches.

>A modified war time economy, traders are going have to get used to a lack of
interest in the finer things in life and a desperate need for light arms and
h-fuel.

>Thats all for now I think im sure we'll add more features as we go along,
erm I am certain that ive forgotten something but i can always give you more
information later.

Thankyou

Post Mon Aug 23, 2004 12:54 pm

Unfortunately none of the team have the kind of programming skills to make any kind of special device to implement territorial control automatically. Instead it will be simply allowing player squads to own the bases, as we see in many mods, but as it will be a roleplaying mod allowing them to take over other bases. We will regularily modify the files to reflect bases and planet ownership. We will also, using the fantastic ioncross SO give base owners money to reflect the kind of revenue that their base/bases would generate in real life.

By the way if anyones interested the mod is far from completion but the forums can be found at Click here they include half done and rough versions of the rules that will be implemented.
