SWMM (Star Wars Music Mod)

Greetings. I have not submitted my mod to TLR as yet, because I wish to receive some feedback before it "goes live" as they say. SWMM Version 1.0 adds 21 tracks from the 1993 "Original Star Wars Anthology Soundtrack", which was conducted by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orechstra. All tracks have been adpated, edited, and converted by me. I wish to stress that the music has not just been ripped off from Jedi Knight, etc.

The mod contains tracks such as;
-Mos Eisley Cantina Music
-Imperial Theme
-Asteroid Chase Music
-Any many more! (I'd better stop before I become a shill )

You can find the mod at the below link:

http://opax.swin.edu.au/~222447/SWMM_v1.1.zip.flmod

The mod is just under 10 meg. Sorry modem users (I am one myself). The mod contains A LOT of music and, if I reduce the quality anymore, then the tracks will sound awful. Let me know if you have any problems or (constructive) feedback.

Requests, anyone?

What are you waiting for, give it up pal.

Just my personal opinion.

What do you mean? I should give up, as in "don't release it because no-one wants it", or submit it to TLR, ASAP??? I don't care. I made this mod for ME mainly, if anybody else wants it, they can download it from TLR. I am in the process of emailing the sbumission details to you now.

A good Music mod, with the benifit that it should only affect the client and not the server so it shouldn't have an affect on lag. Needs to be more complete though. Probably need the soundtracks to all the starwars films to do it. Im about to try it with the Freeworlds Mod as that one seems to be surprisingly lacking considering that it's a TC.

It is the size of the music files that limits music mods. They are looped in the game, so not very long, however, with SW music, everyone would expect to hear the whole thing. When that happens, you have large converted music files to include (large in comparison). The extra size of trying to shove a load of music in the SW:TC mod would have pushed it over 50 megs i assume, so that is why it wasn't included i would expect. I mean, they did include the music for the mission end, so its not like they couldn't or anything!

The mod is big, but I don't think that it is TOO big. As a modem user, it takes around an hour to download a 10 meg file (it took more than an hour to upload it last night when I submitted it), and I think that it is about as small as I can make it. Unfortunately HumanDuracell, I only have the music for the "original" trilogy, and thus I cannot provide the music from TPM and AOTC. There was some good music there though, and this may change in the future. In any case, this would push the size of the mod into the 20 meg. plus realm, and this would prob. not be a prudent thing to do. Actually, I could remove some tracks and add others... Mmmm...

By the way Chips, the victory music that I have used is the same as in Freeworlds, mainly due to the fact that it is the most logical choice. There is a different track for "victory_short" as it is referred to in music.ini (sw_vict_sh), but after playing throught the SP campaign to test the mod, I didn't hear it once. I assume that it is used when you complete a mission from the boards in the bars, etc. In any case, the mod should hopefully be up on TLR soon, and we will see what people think. What do you think of my sig.? Everybody else has one, so I have capitulated and created a Freelanceresque one.

The music mod DOES work with the Freeworlds mod, but you need to activate the freeworlds mod first and then the music mod, as freeworlds will just go over it otherwise. As for the music itself, you can always download it off of the internet. I personally use KAZAA to for my music downloads as it has the ability to let you disconnect and continue at a later date, excellent for those 56k modem users.

As for uploading taking it's time, they always take longer to upload than download, even for ADSL users. Although admitedly not quite that long!

Ah that famous freelancer saying...
Is it me or do the freelancer characters appear to have the same voice?

Thanks for that, I knew there was a good reason for making this mod... . As for Kazaa, I don't trust it, too much spyware. Still, I thought that I should tell you all what it happening.

Essentially, as you are no doubt aware, my mod has been discontinued until I can acquire permission from Lucasfilm. This is unlikely to happen as other mods eg. UT2003 Troopers were apparently rebuffed. I can't even find an email address to use at lucasfilm.com! Still, I have a responsibility to the users of my mod, and thus I will do everything in my power to make sure that my mod can be used without fear of legal reprisals. I should (hopefully) have an email address to use soon. I will keep you all updated.

Regards,

Ok, I have receieved a response from a third party in regard to the utilisation of Star Wars music. They informed me that Lucasfilm are not involved, and that I should contact the owners of the music, or John Williams. Therefore, I am sending (yet) another email to the business is question. I know that I'm being mysterious about the identities of these businesses and invididuals but, if you think about it, you'll probably be able to figure out why.

Thanks for that. It confirms my theory, as my 1993 soundtrack CDs are marketed and distributed by Artista too. But, as I understand it, the music is currently owned by another company and I am contacting them. Obviously, they haven't responded yet. I would LOVE to email Lucasfilm, but I can't find an email address! :'(
