Upgradable Ships?

I cant seem to find a mod like this any where but has anybody made a mod (or knows how to) in where you can buy and equip different powerplants or lights or engines etc. I would really like to upgrade my favorite ship then to have to buy a titan or something.

I dont know about upgrading in-game, but you could always change the ships data outside of the game, ie. create new goods in the right ini files that would be especially for that ship, and then change the ship package to have your goods in, rather then the original ones assigned. Just a thought.
