Star Wars: Empires

I'd just like to announce here that initial design and development work has begun on Star Wars: Empires, a total conversion for Freelancer... making the Sirius Sector into the Star Wars galaxy in every conceivable way!

Star Wars: Empires is a joint development project between Project 90 Software and the Frost Works Modding Group.

The goals for Star Wars: Empires are seperated into three phases:

Phase 1 - "A New Hope..."
This phase will change all existing Freelancer systems to be in-line with our vision of Star Wars, and will add all the ships seen in the original trilogy.

Phase 2 - "Echoes of the Past, Visions of the Future..."
This phase will add in all relevant prequel ships as well as ship types featured in games such as X-Wing Alliance. The system list will be expanded to include those found in the prequel trilogy, as well as popular expanded universe systems.

Phase 3 - "Expanding Universes..."
This phase will see the gradual addition, through regular patches, of new ships, stations, systems, and equipment based on what is found in the Expanded Universe materials... including the New Jedi Order and Prequel books. This phase will continue as long as there is new material to add...

The ultimate goal of Star Wars: Empires is to re-create the Star Wars galaxy in every conceivable way. From the traffic going to and from Bothawui, to the dangerous Kessel Run, to the secrets of the Unknown Regions... Star Wars: Empires will endeavour to show it all, and immerse you in the wonders of the Star Wars universe!

Sounds awsome, any clue on when it will be finished?? Six months to a year??

Within 6 months of today, we'll have easily reached and be in Phase 3.

We've already got most of our core models done, and really all the work is system changes, equipment modifications, and the like. Oh, and actually getting the models in game, since right now we've just got the meshes/textures and such...

Estimate to Phase 1 Completion, about a month or two. Phase 2 will take about the same period of time. After that, Phase 3 will last as long as we want to keep updating it.

We've also already got a server lined up to run it, and we'll probably be recruiting more people to run it as well...

will this be PURE star wars ?

or are there plans to link to a system [just one or two that will include some other theme(s) ?

I am aware of another Star Wars mod floating around, but I'm not even going to their site I, and my team, have our vision for the Star Wars galaxy, so we're going to do our best to see that through to completion.

I don't see the "other" Star Wars mod as competition in any way... simply as a different way of doing things.

the Freeworlds mod has nothing on Project 90.

The difference will be night and day I'm sure. just go to Project 90's website to see what I mean, andcompare it to Free Worlds.
It's like the difference between our minor league team, the Asheville Tourists, and the Atlanta Braves.

A few questions:

1.How many on the team??

2. Are you just going to edit the existing systems (E.g, renaming everything) or deleting everything and starting from scratch??

3. Are you using a system editor??

4. What about factions? Will they be new or will they just be renamed??

5. Are you going to use Porsches ships (Probably yes)!!

I'm not going to ask if I can help as I'm busy enough allready with the Galapagus Mod and X-Lancer (That has kinda the same principal...) and a few other mods!!

The ones who have havn't...

Could you have several versions covering different time periods? Basically, changing which factions own which star systems, which ships are available, and the news?

Thurmonator are you some kind of modding genius then.?

sorry i just think its unfair to write off the freeworlds mod so soon. to start with atleast they have released something for us to use until the mod is completed. okay its only two system but have you played it. great fun and there is a huge amount of people on the server all the time.

plus have you seen some of the latest models they kick ass, they certainly beat most other models on the net. just look at the luxury yatch or the e-wing posted in the gallery, they look better than most of lucas-arts ships. infact george give that guy a job?

im starting to rant, i'm, sure stalker and the P90 guys will do a great mod that looks exceptional but i dont think its fair for people like thurmanator to slag the mod before its even in its beta. especially when he doesnt even give reason. i mean if the guy is a super modder from counter strike then okay he may have inside info as to what makes a good mod. otherwise i think he should let them do the mod, i for one want them to finish the mod and i would hate for a few bad eggs on the forums to affect the public opinion.

so thurmonator if you can do better then show us or if you have proof why one is better than the other then prove it?

and no i'm not on the mod team, i'm just a fan whos been using the mod since the first alpha and i know how many people like it. now im going to go wrap bandages around my hands and dip them in glass for the next round.

I riled you with a copy of a fanboys commentary on P90's website when the subject came up about the 'other' mod after the announcement of P90's mod, the other mod of course being Free Worlds. Honestly, I've yet to play the Free Worlds mod. I'm sure it is quality based on the feedback I've seen. I play Rebalance mainly.

I don't know what got into me when I posted that...well I thought it was funny.

What's the status on this mod? It sounds awesome? And will it support SP as well as MP?

Thank God I'm getting broadband so I can start downloading big MODS. I've kept myself to single ships so far, and if this is out on time, It'll be the first total conversion MOD I'll get. Yes, I am a Starwars nerd.
