What Hardware is needed?

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

What Hardware is needed?

we going to rent a new server these days, the old seems to be pretty overpowered only running the fl-server+ioncross+flhook

the new one will be less expensevie but the hardware is also quite lowend:

2.4GHz Celeron
512MB of RAM
80 GB HDD
pretty good connection like the existing one so it cant be not the bottleneck

the good is that the os will be win 2003 webedition what uses alot less memory than a desktop-os like 2000 or XP, i also will deactivate the not needed services.

most fighters in our mod dont feature more than 4 guns and 2 launchers
but there are also capitals with alot of turrets

the question is will the server lag if its used by up to 60 players? any experiences?

I would recomend more ram, 1.5gb if possible.

RAM is "ok", not good but ok.

The CPU could be very slow, iirc Celerons are in general very slow cpus.
You might consider a better cpu, like a Pentium D or a Core 2 Duo.

Your current cpu is ~30-40 players max. I guess.

As has been stated, up the momory asthis will provide you with the most performance advantage.

And ya, if you can change the celeron, that would be recommended, but you should be fine if you up the memory.

not sure but, I run a server on an ordinary PC and it seems to run fine
of course I don't happen to have that many players on at a time either
the most I've seen at a time so far is 4
only have trouble if other things run in the background like the annoying auto-update or the rewnewal for anti virus software that occasionally pops up

Had FL on a Celeron 2.8 (LGA775) for a while with 512 megs of DDR RAM - with a 24 user limit it wasn't too bad, but a Pentium dual core really hits the spot when it comes to being able to handle 32-48 users and do Ioncross maintenance stuff in the background.

With the Celeron, if I used the "Update Player Files" or "Re-Generate Player List" function in Ioncross I could count on lagging my own server quite handily, but with the Pentium D 945 it barely notices.
