RPG Mods Freelancer server now online

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

RPG Mods Freelancer server now online

The server has actually been online for a few days now, but I've been waiting to see any other people were actually able to connect before announcing it (since my own gaming machine is on a local network with the server, that wouldn't be much of a test ).

Server name: RPGMods.com FL Server
IP address: 71.29.214.42
Slots: 12 (to start; this may go up, if I determine that the server can handle it)

Server is running IONCROSS Freelancer Server Operator, Mark V.

All players start with 50,000 credits and a neutral rep. In addition, users can improve their standing with all factions by blowing up nomads (in case you screw up somewhere, I figured I may as well include a safety net). The server is also running the Battleship Missions mod, available from this site.

There is a small required download for play on this server, as it is running a variation (still made the original author) of the Buyable Generators and Armor mod that is available here on LR. Since the version that has been available here for some time is not compatible with the version on the server, I have posted the proper version in the FL server forum on the RPG Mods forums (see the relevant sticky thread). This download is NOT optional; trying to play without it will result in a CTD as soon as you launch from Manhatten (I have personally confirmed this).

Since the main mod pretty much equalizes all the ships in the game (except for cargo capacity), any ship in the game is a viable choice (though for trading, the dromedary is pretty much king of the freighters ). I myself fly a fully-upgraded Dagger packing class 9 and 10 weapons and a class 10 shield.

The full rules for the server can be found here. I strongly recommend reading, as all players will be expected to follow the rules. Ignorance will not be a valid defense. Most of the rules are pretty standard stuff, but they need to be posted anyway, just so I have something to point to in case of a problem.

I should note that the {Admin} tag is not in use on the server. I myself do not use it, as I prefer to be able to just play the game (my in-game name is Baratheon79). However, if anyone needs help with anything on the server (even if it's just a partner for a mission) I'll be happy to help.

Once the server has a decent number of users, I hope to begin having regular in-game events. Examples of possible events would be bounty hunts and races (heck, there's already a race course in the game, so why not?).

** Edit - 3/21/2006:
Since anyone trying to download an attachment from the RPG Mods forums would have to register first (which I don't want to force people to do if I can help it), I have also added the required mod to the site's mod database (it's currently the only Freelancer mod hosted there.

The proper version of the mod can be downloaded from the following link:

I joined your server. No one's on though.

Well, it's sort of hard for me to play when I'm at work (just got home as I'm typing this). The server is pretty much just getting started. With so many more established servers out there, I'm not expecting the member base to grow dramatically in 1 day.

So far, looking at the data collected by FLSO, there are now 4 accounts (not counting my own, which was actually created before I put the server online). I suspect a couple of these people, though just found the server in the global listings, and logged in without the required mod loaded, and just said "screw it" when they tried to launch and then found themselves staring at their desktop.

I created an account, havent had any lag at all (probably cause i was all alone lol)
Also the download for the "Lite" version of that mod doesnt work on those forums, its a broken link.

Glad to see that there weren't any issues. As for the link for the mod, I just checked it myself, and seems to work fine (it's posted as an attachment).

However, here is an alternate link: Click here

So far, I'm seeing 7 accounts created since the server went online (this is not counting my own account). Though quite a few of the players were only logged in for a very short time (45 seconds in one case). I'm guessing a few more victims of crashes due to not having the required mod loaded (as I've said already, this is NOT optional).

Ugh, I tried getting on and it crashed before I could even connect.

Sorry, I've been experimenting with something, which required me to take the server offline temporarily. Everything should be fine now.

I've now got the server set up so that all jumpgates and jumpholes will now be unlocked for new players. I have also applied this change to all existing accounts, so players who already created a character won't be jipped.

Also, if anyone is curious, I didn't have to apply any mods to get this to work. I just modified the "initialworld.ini" file in the Freelancer\DATA folder. I simply deleted the "locked_gate" lines, saved the file, and restarted the server (making sure all existing accounts had the change applied to them before doing so, of course). Just figured I may as well post this info, in case it is useful to anyone.

Had some recent internet connection problems, but they seem to be resolved for now. In addition, I have also installed new hard drives in the machine acting as the game server.

It's back online now, and will remain so unless more problems arise.

I've editted the original post with an alternate link for the required mod (seeing as how the original version from here is not the version in use on the server). At this point, I want to offer sincere thanks to IronSceptre for his support with this. He actually provided the update to the mod, which is now running on the server.

For anyone who doesn't want to scroll back up, though, here is the link for the required mod:
