Connetion Error On My Own Server

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Connetion Error On My Own Server

I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong forum or if this topic has been addressed before. I am a little frustrated and I've been looking through the forums for a few hours and cannot find a workaround or a fix for my issue.

I am running WinXP (sp2) on a wireless lan (linsys wrt54g).

Here's my issue... I have been able to run a Freelancer server (both with the standard freelancer server as well as flmm) in the past without a problem. Last week when I set up my server and tried to run it I encountered the following problem.

I can set up my server for INTERNET play, however my ping time is either ????? or --- and when I try to join my game, I get an error saying either my internet connection is junk or the server is down.

I cannot see my server on my LAN either.

This makes no sense to me since I have tried hosting on the machine I am playing on as well as a second machine sitting a few feet away.

Some of the steps I've already taken is to check for portforwarding and set my ports to the settings given in the manual. I have also seen port setting in the forums and tried those as well and I still cannot connect.

I've shut down my firewall (sygate) and that does not seem to make a difference.
I've shut down the built in 'windows' firewall and still get the same results.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game (back to 1.0) and this has had no effect either.

I can log into other servers and play.
Others cannot log into my server.
I cannot log into my server.

Could someone please let me know what I am doing wrong and how to resolve the issue?

Thank you in advance.

Check to see if you've got IPv6 set up on your NIC.

Also, you only need 1 firewall running on your PC (I prefer Sygate Firewall to the Windows-included one)- an additional firewall doesn't really make you more secure, just uses more resources and slows your internet down.

Thank you for your reply.

Regarding firewalls: I keep the windows one 'off' and only use the Sygate one.
I currently have it off at the moment as well.

What has me scratching my head is that last night I was able to log into my own server (running on the same machine I was playing on) 2 or 3 times.
I have no idea why I was able to log in and then without any reason I can think of I was no longer able to.

I really love Freelancer and it's bumbing me out hardcore that I'm having this problem.

I just checked and I'm not running IPv6.

I'm not complaining, I like this site and the forums, however I vvish you could get assistance as quickly as you can on the Blizzard forums.

I've looked through the fourms here, I've been to the MS website and I've read the manual in the EXTRAS folder on my Cd and nothing I do seems to resolve the issue.

I still have the same issue trying to connect to my server and I'm at the point of giving up.

RESOLVING MY OWN ISSUE:

I've seen other people on this site post the same/similar issue that I have.

I was able to do a workaround by removing my wireless NIC and using one that requires a RJ45 to my router.

If this information helps anyone, cool.
